You're spot on and that's the way I suggested in the 5th post of this thread but the OP didn't want to do it that way.

Can anyone please help me? I want to totaly empty the comp and start from scratch

I have a XP disc and Windows start up disc. All I need is to format the hard drive anyone interested in taking on this challenge

Easy make sure your pc boots to the cd drive, with the cd in!! Wait about 2 mins till you get a blue screen.. Easy from here.. press your f8 key to get passed the license and follow the on screen instructions till it tells you that that there is drive c with so much used and so much free.. Press D ( delete the partition) you sure press L of course you are!! It will then take you to the previous screen (unkown partition) Press C Create partiton, format the drive dive as ntfs quick, could do it the other way but it will take a life time.. give it 40 mins roughly depending on your pc and only have to answers about 2 questions and its done..

But remember all the dodgy evidence that your trying to remove from the PC never actually gets removed. It just clears all the links and Everything is still on that machine!!!! Scarey.

As explained above the procedure is very easy....

    1. Boot the computer with the XP CD in the drive and allow setup to begin. When you come to the screen where you select the drive partition you should see the drive listed with all the space listed as unpartitioned. If the drive was in use previously, you'll need to delete all the existing partitions. To do this you'll have to hit the 'D' key followed by the 'L' key.

Once all the existing partitions are deleted the display will show the total unpartitioned disk space.

    2. Hit the 'C' key to create a partition. If you only want one partition then hit enter and the entire disk space will be allocated to the C Drive (NTFS) assuming the drive is 32GB or larger.

    3. Once all the partitions have been created, use the 'Up' arrow key to select the C drive partition to install XP on and select to format it as NFTS.
