    Hi Egon & savingfortravel!

In my homemade muesli I tend to mix brazil nut pieces, halved walnuts, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and then mix it with either quinoa flakes or spelt flakes or whatever flakes that you fancy. I also add some grounded cinnamon for extra flavour. I then eat it with berries or plums and sometimes I also add bran flakes or cornflakes. With the homemade muesli I can only eat half the portion compared to muesli that I used to buy and I get less hungry mid morning compare to before.

I spend around £8-£9 a month but then it lasts 4-6 weeks for one person.

If anybody else got any other ideas on how to make your own muesli then I would like to know.

    I hope you enjoy it.

  • Not sure if this should be here or in the recipes section, but as soups seem to be popular now i thought i'd add it.

Has anyone had lettuce soup? it really is lovely (please believe me..i know it sounds horrid) the best lettuce to use is iceberg.

Fry one onion in butter till soft and add a tablespoonful of flour. Heat slowly
Add approx a pint of chicken stock, one lettuce, chopped, teaspoon of sugar, salt, white pepper, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, half pint of milk (full cream makes it nicer, but semi is better if your watching the calories) and simmer for 5 mins or so.
Leave to cool for a while then add an egg yolk and blitz with a hand blender. re-heat.

Its lovely if you add some cream, but fine without. The above makes enough for about 6+ people and it keeps fairly well if put in fridge.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

MOre stuff added to freezer: two containers of 'chunky tomato sauce' with tomato, bacon, carrot, celery, onion, courgette, pepper, etc. And two freezer bags of parboiled potatoes for roasting (found them lurking at the bottom of the fridge). Dh said he thought I was 'funny' for doing it. But he admits we are on the way to a financial crisis (in 20 years when we retire with minimal pension and no house) so that's just stupid on his part.

But now I have a really serious question: when it comes to the time to turn my frozen potato/carrot/parsnip into roasted veges, how do I do it? Or, more specifically, do I defrost them first or can I put the frozen veges straight into the pan? They aren't stuck together or anything.

Can you freeze mushrooms? If so should you slice them up first?
    Thanks

SFT you can freeze mushrooms. i've always frozen them sliced as they can then be added straight to something without defrosting.

DH made some flapjacks tonight for lunchboxes and I made a quiche which has turned out really nice. Sounds like everyone is doing well:j
