The Bees: your spaghetti bake sounds interesting, do post a recipe later.
Mrs M: inspired by the idea of popping sausages on top of a potato bake. Hadn't thought of that, and it'll be easy and cheap. Thank you.
izoomzomm: do you add water and breadcrumbs. I always add a tblspn of water, and this seems to bind them. Mind you the grated apple and carrot probably help as well. They don't fall apart.
Mooky: I just throw everything I've got into my chicken risotto (chopped onions and leeks, yellow pepper, peas, chicken, and chicken stock). I don't use risotto rice anymore as they kids don't like the stickiness. It's an easy, and cheap meal.

icandream....my DD doesn't like the stickiness either..does it work just as well with normal rice then? for some reason i've never thought of using it.The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0

have had issues before when our store stocks things others don't etc. I will try again next time I go asking about that brand & bar code etc. They only had 'White Maize Meal', I also just tried the Natco website and haven't been able to find it on there so far, wonder if they have stopped making it hence the 96p?
One day I might be more organised...........

Well, the kids prefer it with normal rice (basmati), and I have to say, I do too. It's delicious, though I say so myself, but I do use the stock I make up from the roast, so this makes the rice very tasty. The problem is, I have a packet of risotto rice I now cannot use. Grrrr.

Well I had to go out today to Asda & Aldi.
Spent £8.62 in Aldi. Bought:-
Cucumber £0.61
Spring Onions £0.53
Butternut Squash £0.99
Bag of carrots £0.56
Grapes £0.49
Green Beans £0.49
Bag of Inions £0.66
Sweet Potatos £0.99
3 pkts of biscuits £3.27(cant seem to get a proper hang of the baking at the minute, and am looking for recipes for biscuits).
In asda I was £1.96 for 6 pints of milk.
So that takes my total up to £25.86
Does anyone use powdered milk in their cooking/baking? Does it taste okay?

Hi everyone.
Great to hear of such good progress. Keep it up everyone...
We've just spent another £2 in Tesco today (Cravendale 2 litres -Semi Skimmed -for £2-do I dare water it down??)
Mookybargirl-Could you direct me to the recipe for Mushroom Rissotto?
Have eaten it once or twice (in restaurants) and loved it but never cooked it myself.
Is there a recipe thread somewhere......?????????????

 have managed to spend over half of my monthly budget in a week! Got a new double door American fridge freezer yesterday, so went to Mr. T's this morning to try and find things to fill it! Def not very OS!
Not sure how I"m going to manage with only £140 left, but I do have a lot of meat so I'm going to really try hard!
I also have a separate budget of £50 a week for trips out, take-aways etc, does anybody else have an entertainment budget? How much do you all allow for fun?Cheers!:beer:Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))0
