This is interesting. My OH is always telling me how cheap Morrisons is. I hate Morrisons - but felt guilty! This week I did a test shop at Mr M. I used mysupermarket.com to price up my staples at Mr S (Morrisons aren't represented on this site for some reason), then went to Mr M armed with this list.

A lot of things were exactly the same price. Where things were cheaper, it was by pennies or because it was on special offer. A lot of goods that I buy were actually more expensive at Mr M. I was surprised - but glad. Morrisons always seems such a muddle to me. Back to Mr S for me. I just have to stick to the list:rolleyes:

My OH says it's price fixing. I was always lead to believe that Mr S was one of the dearest supermarkets. But I've always shopped there and feel at ease, does that make sense? When we went to Asda it was a strange experience, I put it down to not knowing the aisles and where things were. I hope Mr S forgives my moment of weakness :rotfl: . Actually I don't like Morrisons either, aren't we snobby?! :p

    Welcome Platinum Horse :D

I am sure the FrogMaster aka mikeD will be glad of some male company :o

Off the top of my head I think Doom_and_Gloom gets her organic veg box delivered. The pictures she posts are cracking :D
And I know there are another couple of people who shop locally rosieben is one that I can remember, but I am sure there is another few :o

I do try to buy organic veg from the supermarkets, but it is not always possible. I always buy freerange eggs locally, which actually does work out much cheaper

    Good Luck :D
Yes I get an organic veg box delivered which is lovely, only travels just over 8 miles to get to me and has mostly local produce from the place I get it from as well :T . I always try and state what I get as well as how much and if I can I post pics. I haven't been able to recently as my phone has decided it to tell me it has not got enough memory after I take one but still tells me there is enough for 60 odd more pics  .

Okay I'm in for £35 again this month as it is a 2X£15 box delivery month again :rotfl: . Month spaning from the 1st of March to the 31st of March. I would like to say £34 or lower but I have 2 new rapidly growing rats that need quite a bit more food than the mice I used to have did and have no idea what they cost a month yet :rotfl: . I would show you pics of my adorable ratties (Millie and Pheobe) but as I said my phone is upset or angry with me (I'm not sure which lol) so I'm not able to  .
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Mumzy I'm with them too, but you can only put your readings on 3 times a quarter, which means monthly. I've been doing that for a while now, as when the price goes up they know how much you've used at the old price.

    Hi all,

first of all JACKS re the bagless delivery personally I wouldn't do the box by the door thing, this would give them a choice and I would want to make them have to take it through to the kitchen. And if they don't take it through then I would deliberately take it slow on emptying the crates :) after all you are paying for this service...you wouldn't pay the mechanic if he bought the part and didn't fit it. BTW does anyone else find that female delivery drivers moan less ?? :)

On the plastic bags if you have local charity shops they might be grateful for them. I reuse the supermarket ones for the bin but the odd shaped ones (which are nearly always heavier) I leave into the charity shop and they are always pleased.

I did a Sainsbury shop tonight in hopes of a reduced price section but no luck. However I did have a £4 off voucher if you spend £40 and they had the misprice of mozzarella at £1.05 instead of £1.39 so I bought ten packs :) We had been running low so this was a real boon. The shopping came to a total of £36.02 which means that I had made it over the £40 mark by 2p :j wish I could claim good planning but it was def more good luck. This isn't quite all the basics - they had only fancy loo roll and kitchen roll and we need both - but it was a pretty good stock up all the same. And I have another £4 off £40 voucher for next time :)

Hope you are all doing well!

PS I filled the car with petrol while I was there :eek::eek:nearly £60!! I am now driving very very fuel efficiently and will not be in the car tomorrow!!

Well, I'm going to try again for £350 this month. I'm getting closer, so you never kow - may get there this time!

So far done one big shop in Asda (over £100) but I have been trying to meal plan and think it's working! While I only managed to shave a small amount off the budget we did end up eating better last month.

Right, 1st of the month and I already have pages of this months challenge to catch up on!

    a nsd for me today;)
  • Evening folks :hello:

Gosh, can't believe how many pages we're already in! Welcome to all the newbies. I was new last month but feel like a right oldie already :p .

I did my first shop of the month today, £32.25 spent at Mr M's, and I was quite pleased with this amount. I have 5 weeks in March so need to keep each spend under £40. So far so good. There's me, OH and 2.5 yo DD in our house to feed.

Good news is that DD is out of nappies so I have £20 ish more to spend/save :j .

I'm going to concentrate this month on using up the contents of my freezer and when I do cook a meal from stratch I will make enough to make at least 2 meals, eat one and freeze one. I did that today for tea with a cheap shoulder of lamb. I made a cassarole with loads of veggies and the extra has gone in the freezer.

I might have to pop out in the week for a bit of fruit but hopefully it won't damage the budget by too much.

    Good luck everyone :)
  • I forgot to say that I've found a fabulous way of sticking to your shopping list. I took my DD shopping with me. I've just got her out of nappies but she's still early days. The threat of her saying those words "wee wee" just made me fly around the shop like I have wings on my back :rotfl: .
