Thanks Earth Mother. Carrier bags just fit into my recycling bin - one half for recyclables - the other for all the rest. Excellent recycling where I live.
Thanks for the ideas re "other" bags. I was looking at the compostable bags earlier today - that seems a good idea too.0 -
May overspend this month. Checked store cupboard and decided it needed stocking also freezer for frozen veggies which are not in season yet so with shop from Asda as well have spent £79.00. Still have to buy meat but now have lots of nice things, noodles, sauces, herbs and flavourings so should be ok for a while. Should be left with about ten pounds a week for rest of month so hopefully may get within budget. I decided we should be able to live on £25 per week for the two of us but will go for £150 this month as its ages since I stocked up cupboard and freezer.0

I know it seems quite a lot but I normally budget for £60.00 per week for myself, hubby2b and 16 year old step daughter so for the rest of this month will aim for £55.00 per week in the hope to get it sooooooooooooooooooooo much lower. Must learn to do meal planners better as always have extra food in cupboards at the end of the week and maybe daughter will have to learn to have normal yogurts!!!!!!!
will see how i get on next friday0 -
Just done my first shop of the month today and its taken quite a chunk of my budget but was very satisfying. I got some great bargains.
Farmfoods was selling off masses of Readybrek 500g @ 29p a box so I bought 13 boxes as its our favourite. :T The date is up at end of month but its only a 'best before' so I'm not worried. That's saved me a fortune this month. They had stacks of them so there was plenty for everyone but people were just walking past.
Got all the basics including a huge washing powder that should do me well into next month as I also use washballs.
Oh and Nettos was selling the Carnation Chocolate Pie filling (which we love) for a mere 29p a tin so got 2 of those for added treats in the month. :j
The dreaded loo rolls are stocked too so we're all set.
Total spent so far £44.47.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Hi weemissy and welcome! I've noticed no-ones had chance to answer your question yet (this thread is getting busier and busier every day,it moves SO quickly it's hard to keep up!) so, I think everyone budgets slightly differently, there aren't any hard and fast rules. I, for example, don't include dog food, meals out and milk in my budget as OH pays for those, but I DO include all my toiletries, cleaning stuff etc, which some people don't.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is....it's up to you!:D
anyway, whatever you decide, good luck with it
Hi Bobbykins - thanks, have decided that take-aways will be included, but meals out wont. Couldn't tell you the last time we had a takeaway but like to eat out - although we are doing well at curtailing this, now just birthdays and special occasions. Am including dog food and cleaners as well and in lidls today picked up gents wellies, single bedset for DD and 2 plants - along with my shopping which will hopefully last till Fri, this all came to £33.70:rotfl:Have loads of milk in the freezer thanks to the offer in MrT - which ends 25th this month, so will stock up on this again. Next week will be different because I will need to stock up on meat, fish and chicken, but so far so good.
Thanks:hello:there's me, OH, DS 10, DD 7,
