    Afternoon all :D

Hi bigMummaF.... is this any good :D
    http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-southern-fried-chicken-2

Well hubby has requested tortilla wraps with southern chicken for dinner.... so i have taken 3 balls of dough out of the freezer and 1 chicken steak..

I couldn't carry the cabbage home with the other shopping the other day...so instead of putting coleslaw in with it im going to finely chop peppers, onion and grated carrot and mix in mayo and Greek yog and have lots of salad on the side...
When i have used the other 2 southern fried steaks (got em on whoopsy ;) ) im going to have a go at the recipe above :T

popped to the Naffi this morning and grabbed the last bag of frozen peppers -only €1.23 a kilo :D and a bag of jackets.... spent €4.23.. but i don't have to add it to my total as on the way out i put €1 in the slot machine...don't know what made me do it but i won €16 :rotfl:

Tomorrow i have planned broccoli, leeks n carrots in cheese sauce with breadcrumbs on top and jacket potatoes ...leeks are really cheap here at the moment -69c a kilo  -so i thought it would make a change and im going to do extra jackets, scoop them out and mash up with the extra broccoli mix and stick them in the freezer -once i have made room by taking out a bottle of milk :p
Hope everyone is ready for Aprils challenge :j

  • Hi everyone, I have just caught up reading everybody's posts, you lot all seem to be doing so well. A BIG well done  to everyone who has stuck to their budget this month, I have gone over budget by £46.70  , so I have done really badly. I will try harder next month, although I don't think I've bought anything we didn't need this month. I think I will put my budget up to £180 for April for three of us, me, DH and DS (nearly 2) maybe then I will be able to do it. I think £160 was perhaps a bit ambitious for us as it was a 5 week month- I know lots of you manage on a lot less, but I'm not that good yet!!
So total spend for March £206.70
    April budget £180
Also I just wanted to say a big thankyou for all of the recipes you all keep on posting, I have written loads of them down and am going to give them a go this month.
    Feb 2008 Grocery Challenge £160, Spent £163.48
    March 2008 Grocery Challenge £160 Spent £206.70
    April 2008 Grocery Challenge £180 Lost count:eek:
    May 2008 Grocery Challenge £150
    Spent : £148.72
  • all mounts up. 67p for a small bag of pasta - it used to be 32p!!

Join the club, I'm getting really scared at the cost of food these days. So scared that I'm losing sleep over it. For your pasta, why not try home made....... It does take a little time but buy a bag od 00 pasta flour, 60p and put 200g of it on the clean bench. Make a well in the middle and crack in an egg. mix it together like mixing cement then when it's all mixed knead for 5 minutes, cover in cling film and rest in the fridge for 15 mins ( the pasta not you) then roll out with a rolling pin to the thickness required. this bit is the hardest. leave for 30 minutes to harden off then use in your recipie...

    Gorgeous.

Can I join for March please with a budget of £130. This is for me, OH, son and goldfish - it doesn't include toiletries (my toiletries that is).

As this is my first month I will keep a total of all that I do actually spend, used to spend £100 (we have a big freezer) but have noticed it creeping up...I know it's not a lot but I want more money for us to enjoy, not worrying about if I go for plush loo roll or tracing paper!!

Also found I've been throwing stuff away (fruit, veg), but like to buy fresh, hate going shopping every week, cos then I end up spending more, you know with the extra pack of biscuits or something you happen to see whilst you're there, so any tips of freezing fresh stuff (what's good, not so good) would be great, like to buy deals but then if I have to throw half of it away it's not a deal is it.

Payday is Monday (31st) so I will count from then.

Any tips would be great. Will read Feb posts.

Do we count eating out? :D

    i overspent in march by £100. :o

i did a cupboard filler and brought a new ironing board as well as a couple of bottles of drink to beat the budget price hike. so i know where it went. my lady who waxes had gone on holiday as well so it cost me £5 on removal stuff instead of £20 for a wax. it was a saving i know but the £5 came out of the grocery money where the £20 would have come from elsewhere.

this year ive been far more aware of what im spending and been very good keeping all my expenses in a note book.
in the front i have a double page per week -one page for my shopping list and the other what i spend where so i know where my money has gone. In the back i turn it over and do a double page a month with extra spends on one page and the months total on te other so i can see exactly what is coming out of the bank it makes it a lot asier when the bank statements come to check off what money came out using cheques or the card.

    good luck with April everyone

  • :jHi Everyone, I've done it, I can't believe it I've managed March and was under budget - as a treat I'm going to buy a bottle of wine

I've spent a total of £84.69 for myself, my son and the animals, I did have a well stocked freezer and I've been making meals out of whatever needed using up in the fridge first, my menu plan went out of the window earlier in the month as I kept finding things to use up in the fridge first, I think that's how I managed to keep my budget so low.

I'm in again for April with a budget of £100 again - I'm so excited about starting it :money:
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead
