pooh - I do a recipe my mum used to make when we were young. It's called "Mince Bake Italienne" though I suspect it isn't really Italian - and we used to call it mince with bread on top
Do a usual mince bolognaise sauce (fairly thick one or the next step mixes in) - put in a casserole dish.
Add a layer of cheese sauce (usual white sauce with cheese added like for a lasagna). Pour the cheese sauce over mince
Butter 3 slices of white bread on one side and cut each slice into 9 pieces.
Lay the bread pieces (butter side up) on the top of the white sauce.
Bake in the oven for about 20 mins or until bread starts to crisp and go golden.
Serve with veg (or salad - mum said)
It's bit like lasagna without the pasta - the kids love it too and it's so easy
Also, do bread pud or bread and butter pudworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

I've failed miserably! Was doing quite well but stopped writing things down after about 2 weeks, so have not got a clue what I have spent!
Have to try again next month as I really want to get our grocery shopping down, I think it may have been about £500 this month!
I'm starting my challenge today as I get paid every 4 weeks, and am aiming for a more realistic £350 for the next 4 weeks. I'll post again in April challenge!
Hope everyone else has fared better!:rolleyes:Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))0 -
Hiya
Have made it to the end of the month and I think I have achieved very well £206.92 from a £200 budget.

Can't decide whether I should have a 3 or a 4 week month next month, because I get paid on the 22nd and in previous months (but not this one) I have blown the budget in the last week because all of a sudden I have 'funds'.
What do you think I should do. DH gets paid on 28th0 -
Have actually made this month's challenge! Can't believe it, I've been trying for a couple of months and failing miserably but it worked this month.
For next month, it's a five week month for me but we're away for one week so I'm going to go for four.
So Mrs McC, can you put me down form £300 this month please!!0 -
Hi, have been inspired to have a go for april - please can you put me down for £200 for the month. is there somewhere I go in particular to update? not sure how it all works (hope I've got the right person to help me, sorry if not...)
regards, steph0 -
Hello, I have been reading for a while and have now finally plucked up the courage to post and I would also like to join in the April challenege please. Although month does not start until the 15th.
I would like to be in the challenge at £120 - that is for myself and my partner and little boy who is almost 2. I have been trying to save money for a while and I think doing it with people who have the same goal will make it a lot easier. I also think that by saying I would like to only spend the above amount, it gives more of an oncentive to try and stick to it!
Anway I very much look forward to speaking with you all. Oh please may I also ask - can I freeze hm bread made in a breadmaker? If so, how would I go about doing this?
Many thanks
Jen0
