  • I'm a cats whisker away from going over budget so I wasn't too annoyed when MIL called me this morning to say she wasn't feeling well and could we do Asda another day ;).

I'm gonna stick my neck out and declare at £199.37. I will stretch my milk out and fruit can come out of a tin if necessary. April for me starts next Tues and I have all meals covered until end of next week. Yay :D I stayed within budget :j .

Mrs Mc please put me down for £190 for April

Thanks to everyone who posts. I read it everyday and it really helps me stay motivated, even though I may lapse sometimes when I get into a shop :o .

  • Congrats to Purple Vamp and Girl Least Likely to !!!!!

So, what is that word on your new kitchen scale?

Also, are you looking forward to your visit to the asian supermarket?!? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Bad Bad Egon ....you mentioned the Asian supermarket :rotfl: .... i keep trying to convince myself that i really really shouldn't go this month...I feel like gollum from lord of the rings ..having 2 way conversations about should i go? shouldn't i go? have loads of stuff to use up... but NOW you mention it hmmmmm may have to have a little peek :shhh:
Planning on doing a thai curry this weekend.. using up some "whoopsed" turkey steaks, and some of those asparagus and sweetcorn -"whoopsed" and some of the pretty pretty noodles i got from there

    There are 2 words.....
Broteinheiten ..which when i put it in the translator says -"bread units" which im guessing is carbohydrates  and the other is Kholenhydrate -Which comes up as "charring hydrate".... havent a clue on that one :rotfl:
Those scales are brilliant.... 400 items that will tell you the whole breakdown :T Im very impressed -so much so i am having to stop myself from buying a "spare set":o
By the way im not ignoring your PM... for some reason i can't get my message to return to you...but i will have another bash in the morning :D

  • Well i've completely failed at this months challenge :o:( Have no idea how much i've spent but i'm guessing around the £240 mark out of out £200 budget. I've been feeling really down recently and i have let things slide which has made me feel worse as i've felt like i've had no control over anything :(

Anyway, tomorrow is a new month for me, will try for £200 again and try to stick to it this time. I've got my meal plan for the next week and shopping list ready for tomorrow, i'm going to both Asda and Tescos to make the most of whos got what on offer etc. After visiting Aldi earlier in the month and finding some really good stuff i've decided to also do a shop there every 6 weeks or so to stock up on the items i like :)

Fingers crossed! Good luck everyone :D

Why not look at https://www.fixtureferrets.co.uk and join there. It costs £5.20 a YEAR but the savings to be had are really worth it. One day when I have more time ( yeah right oh) I'm going to sit down and make 2 months meal plans then buy the stuff all from this site using one months money.... well that's the aim.

    Kohlenhydrate is carbohydrates.

Broteinheiten are the unit diabetics use to calculate the amount of carbohydrates in the food. There are 2 slightly different amounts used per BE (Broteinheit). All depends if you are from the old east germany (like me) or Switzerland and or West Germany. Ok, I am waffeling (sp) off to go to dream land.

MRSM - I was sure, that you are ignoring me and my pm's! :D
I wish Germany had a website like moneysavingexpert!

    Chimp choker you were just the kick up the perverbial that I needed. I cook from scratch, for me, DH and 2xDS one of which has a lactose intolerance. I do batch cook when I remember. Have rifled throught the kitchen and found I have enough food for this;

Friday fish for DH and me, fish fingers for DS2, DS1 at party
Saturday ham, egg, chips? and beans Home made chips I presume?
Sunday Roast chicken (need to buy this, will put half in gravy for next week, and make a chicken pie with leg/wing meat) 2 for a fiver at Tesco. More meat on a £5 XL chicken from Morrisons. Add in some mushrooms, carrots, onions, thin white sauce ( it thickens when cooked)
Monday sausage casserole/toad in the hole mash and veg
Tuesday salmon (whoopsied) and jacket spuds for me and DH, Side salad with leaves grown in plant pot on window sill... ok maybe not next week but the week after. £199 for enough seeds for a whole season. homemade pizza for kids...... Fair swap
Wednesday chilli and rice (from this weeks batch cook)
Thursday chicken pie from left over roast (will make on Sunday)
Friday shepherds pie for kids(in freezer), steak for DH, salmon for me.
Saturday recipe using mince pork (probably pork and apricot meatballs?)
    Sunday Frozen chicken from above
Monday homemade quiche potatos and veg
Tuesday mince in gravy mash and veg (have a 1kg lot in freezer whoopsied, so will use 1/3 for hamburgersand freeze, 1/3 for tonight and 1/3 for a lasagne.
Wedneday hopefully home made curry from left over roast will make up and freeze
    Thursday lasagne from tuesday cook.

So after spending £130 last week, I think my bill for the next fortnight might be slightly lower:rotfl: . Anyway wish me luck. I am going to make more of an effort to post daily during April in a bid to shaming myself into sticking to my budget.
Never feel guilty or attempt to shame yourself. Rather rejoice when you save a few quid / pence

My comments in red are not ment to diss anything just another idea. Lactose intollerance how does soya milk go down?

I am at the end of the month and although I said I was really low on food for meals in my freezer I have found that I have 14 loves of white sliced bread!!! I am not going to feed them to my hens but will tell my DH to stop buying it as no one is eating it. Time for some new recipes using bread.

    Evening all,

Not feeling quite so disappointed at failing the challenge this month after reading other people's results and realising we're not the only ones who found it hard this month!:o

I went to MrT today and spent about £50 odd on some essentials that couldn't wait until next week. (pure juice, cheese, milk, bread, veg/fruit etc). The cashier took several coupons for things I hadn't bought too. Our April challenge starts next Thursday but I'm planning an internet shop for the first week which I will begin planning tom evening. Can anyone tell me how to do a shop with Tesco, save it but go back to it to add more things to it a few days later without losing the whole lot?

Anyway , off to bed now. Been digging the garden today and muscles I didn't know I had are aching already!!!
