Thank you.
Do you have a microwave?0 -
sorry I havent been keeping up with the thread this month, I have still been keeping a record in my spreadsheet as normal and have spent 141.44 so far this month, so it is gonna be really close for the last 2 weeks. Should only need to buy fruit, milk and bread but will see if I can resist anything at the supermarket!0

Popping in from work ...
This week going well, only food we've bought is some parsley and the bread that we have on a weekly order. I've even remembered to bring my lunch into work. I used up the leftover gammon from Monday for stuffed potatoes last night, which were really yummy and tonight I've taken some pasta out of the freezer. Not entirely OS buying fresh ravioli, but this week I'll be lucky to get home before 6 most nights, so I have to be sensible with my time.
My plan is to only buy essential fresh stuff this weekend: meat for OH's lunches (will be working at home myself next week as uni break, and will have soup rather than sandwiches), veg and fruit. My freezer was full when I last posted and it is still full, so I'm on track for a very cheap week, which will make up for last week's big spend.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
Had a good week so far, I spent £42 in tesco on sat, which really sets me up for the month except for milk and veg. My freezer is full and I'm gonna batch cook today. xxMoney, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

Have you got the recipe for the hummous n butterbean dip please? They sound delish:p
Hummous is basically chick peas (tinned is easiest), chopped garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. The traditional recipe has tahini in it but I don't usually bother with it. Just blend them together to the texture you want, adding a bit more oil/ lemon juice if you want it runnier - there's a recipe here http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A301988 which is similar to what I do. I usually put a little bit of chilli powder in, have also added fresh coriander which is lovely.
The butterbean dip I've made was more or less the same but replacing the chick peas with butterbeans and adding some onion as well as garlic. Think you could do similar things with pretty much any kind of canned beans and just experiment with adding various herbs and spicesDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

Hi
Sorry I have not been posting but I have still been doing the challenge. My budget was set for £240.00 and I have £159.25 left. Supplies are getting a bit low so I am going to do a stock take and then meal plan around this, then shop as needed from a list. I should be able to keep within budget, hopefully. I am being very strict with my spending. Hope everybody is doing well. Best wishes.credit card balances March 2008 £5159.11Time to pick myself up and start again.0 -
I've just made a lovely veg lasagne(last one was horrid and the dogs ate it)and a chana dahl, so probably at least 5 meals there:j :j I will deffo be ok until I go away in 3 weeks, apart from buying bread, fruit n veg and maybe more cheese:D
The dogs are giving me puppy dog eyes, cos they can smell the lasagne, but this one's all mine:p"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

My signature is still up to date, not many changes as I've been cooking and baking. Yesterday's bread has turned out the best so far, but I made several slight changes. I used a mixture of plain and strong flour, I let it prove for over an hour followed by a further half hour (came on MSE and forgot the time), and made the dough with water but added a desertspoonful of milk powder rather than using milk. Don't know which slight change made all the difference, but the bread has come out soft crust and is slicing almost perfectly! I've impressed even me, and that's going some! The only fault I could find was a hole/bubble in the middle! :rotfl:
We'll probably have ham/lentil soup with hm bread for tea tonight, followed by apple pie and hm custard and I'll batch cook the ham & mushroom and cheese & ham pies for freezing. Also got to make some lasagne for tomorrow and will probably bake some more bread seeing as the oven will be hot anyway
Can anyone let me know if Asda closes on public holidays?
Going visiting Easter Sunday/Monday and there's a large Asda store near where I'll be staying.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
