Well had to go to shopping today, so, went to Morrisons as I was in that area.

    Bought:- Easy cook rice £1.49
    Medium Free Range Eggs £2.45
    Large Free Range Eggs £1.45
    Salad Onions £0.59
    Whole Cucumber £0.68
    3 tomatoes £0.33

So will update sig in a moment.

The rice I bought is a big bag, and im dreading cooking it. Any time ive tried to cook rice myself, it never turns out correctly. Its all sticky and mushy yuck, and Ive always used boil in the bag rice, but, its so expensive.
So, tonight its HM chicken curry for tea, so, Im off to cook the rice. Someone told me, to use 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice is that right:confused: ???

Feeling really really unorganised, still not done a menu plan because I dont actually have lot of meat in the hosue. Loads of fillet steak for DH but, thats about it. Have 3 chicken fillets which have been defrosted which im going to make into chicken & Spiniach lasange.

Will just play pot luck for the rest of March (ive got about 12 days worth of dinners), but, could make the rest up with basic pasta, omlettes, and quiches, and soups.

Just had to go and do a bit of a wee shop (haven't got enough to last until the end of the month  ). I did get the stuff to make the choc brownies and a few other bits that were on offer so hopefully will be less to buy next month. I'm still under my estimated budget though, so really pleased. No more shopping now until payday (25th). Have put rest of shopping allowance in savings account so I can't get to it now, even if I wanted to !

Hope everyone else is doing ok?

Hi all, so I was looking at Mumzy's iced bun recipe and it says 10g milk powder which I don't have - can I leave it out or use milk or is that a no no?

Anyone got a GL flapjack recipe please? These would cheer my OH up no end! Thanks a lot, loving all the posts, great inspiration to get back into my kitchen!

    Hi bails...

Missing out the milk powder won't make much difference i never use it in bread... but you could use part milk and part water if you like..should just give you a softer crust

When i do rice i do 2 cups of water to 1 rice..try not to stir to often as it makes it sticky.. then when its nearl done i tip it into a sieve... put some hot water in the bottom of the pan, sit the sieve on then a lid and leave it on a low heat..it sort of steams to fully cooked but allows it to drain -just keep an eye the pan doesn't boil dry...
LIDL used to do boxes of boil in the bag rice at quite a good price..don't know if you have seen it

Hmmm... trying to decide whether to try an evening raid on Tesco with the last £4 of my budget, seeing if there's anything really well reduced... on the one hand I'm bored, and they might have some bargains later on.. on the other it's horrible weather and I might end up buying more than I need just cos it's reduced.. or they might have nothing worth getting!

Realised that I'd made waaay too much of that lentil pate so I've converted some into a rather experimental spicy lentil soup tonight - fried some onions and garlic, added the pate mix, the remains of a jar of indian mixed pickle with water, and then chucked in some frozen spinach and boiled it all up. Yet another funny coloured but yummy concoction!

Right... it's actually not raining at the moment and I need the exercise so Tesco here I come....

    Hi everyone
Am going to start trying to have more NSD, on a roll as I've now had 2 in a row. MSE business is now encroaching on my work - mum phoned me today while I was at a busy clinic to tell me the butchers had mince on special - did I want some, too right I did! Everyone in the waiting room agreed it was a good buy :o oh no does that mean today wasn't a NSD? - haven't physically parted with any money yet.
BigMummaF - no problem to give you the ham and cheese muffin recipe - they are very tasty. I got it from the 'this morning' website, and they got it from gordon ramsey's wife's cookbook (still following me?), really silly question but am I able to post it on this site? or is there some copywrite thingy that applies? Anyway OH just come in from work and I am going out to do a wee 2hr shift at work - needs must!
    :hello:there's me, OH, DS 10, DD 7,
and our deranged border collie - sadly put to sleep Aug 23rd 09  now have our GSD x collie oct 10
