Really great news that the parties are starting to go well, I have no doubt that you will be successful at it given how determined you are! The advice about a separate account to keep money by for tax etc is good advice - we do it and that way we never have any problems when the tax bills are due (we're also VAT registered so put money by for that, but you don't need to worry about that - until your turnover gets to about £65k which knowing you won't take long!!!).

Seriously though, it means being a bit disciplined not to go out and blow it (but you have got that self discipline anyway) and then at the end of the year, if your tax bill is lower, you've got a bit of a bonus that you can use, but you're never in a position where you can't pay it.

You'll probably find a lot of your business comes from word of mouth and recommendation once people have seen you in action - if they enjoy the party they'll talk about it to their friends etc etc.

you're doing fab and should be so proud of yourself. i've been self employed for 10 years (since getting pregnant with first child) and i've yet to pay tax. this isn't because i'm cheating the system but i've worked round the children so i'm only part time self employed. i don't have to pay NI but i do pay the voluntary SE contribution which is £8.30 a month. it's been worth paying because i'm not able to work at the moment (broken wrist - hence no capital letters) so i'm getting incapacity benefit. i'm only getting this for 6 weeks as i've got my first client booked in two days after the plaster cast comes off but it has helped me get through.

the only thing i'd recommend is keeping your accounts up to date however basic and believe me mine are basic. anything coming in and anything going out as you only pay tax on profit.

good luck with future parties xx

Oops didn't realise I hadn't updated! lol What a muppet I am..
Hope everyone's well! Have been very busy today. The meeting last night was really good and got loads of ideas. Today I have been busy advertising. Couple of free ads... and I paid £5 to have my ad with a local in 2 issues of our local bargain pages... and £21.28 to have an ad on a popular wedding services website for a whole year. Have also got a free trial on a REALLY popular well known wedding site and after the free trial it's £15 a year so will definately be going for that I think. I've also emailed enquiring about setting up at a local wedding fayre.. (Can you tell I'm aiming at the hen night market at the mo? lol).
My only problem at the moment is I ordered some new ink cartridges through quidco but they don't work. But the company have offered to issue a full refund and I'm going to but some proper Lexmark ones as the ones I had were 'remanufactured' ones... that's what I get for buying cheap I guess but I DID go through quidco.. lol!

Apparently someone at Ste's work is interested in having a party so Ste was doing a bit of work for me. :) So fingers crossed she gets in touch. :)

Speaking of Ste he is currently in his appraisal and will find out about his payrise/bonus..... fingers crossed for some good news!
