Are contact lenses DFW? Opinions needed!

            Hi,
Im after some advice. I recently started waring contacts and had tests with Boots and have now got my prescription. I have had a really bad experience with Boots and now want to order the lenses from somewhere else. However, I feel like Boots have scammed me as I cant order from anywhere else as they dont do an ecquivalent of simple Boots Monthly lenses? I dont want to have anymore tests, I have had 6 visits to the opticians since January and am getting very fed up, I just want to order them online. I feel like I have no alternative but to go back to Boots but as a point of principle as to how I have been treated, my mind is telling me not too!
Do you know anywhere which do their brand of standard Boots Monthlys?
 Thanks in advance0

Kirsty - boots (or any other opticians) own brand are the same as a major make but they print boots own brand on the box. I started on vision express own brand, but its the same as coopervision. If you go to one of the online places, get their number and give them a ring, they will tell you which brand is the same as boots own, its just repackaged for boots. The first company I tried (getlenses) did not have the equivelent of my prescription, but the 2nd company I tried (asda online) did.
Some of the web companies have an option of "opticians own brand" and you just type in the name of the lenses, such as boots dailies and they will sort it out for you. I found it easier phoning them as I had a different type of lense for each eye and a hard to get prescription.0

I had a quick look on getlenses for you, you can get boots own brand monthlys on there, they will prob send you the mainstream make, so you know what to order in future.0

I'd be interested to know what decision you made here. Personally, speaking as a man, I love girls with glasses.:D The modern smaller, squarer rims look really flattering although if the lenses are strong they have the effect of blurring the eyes and you have nice eyes. So contacts would look good on you I think.0

I went with glasses. Spent £120 on them so though it wouldn't be very DFW to have both!Entertainer wrote: »I'd be interested to know what decision you made here. Also my second dilemma is not knowing whether I look better with or without glasses... hence the poll.. What do you guys honestly think? I've been arguing with myself all week so though 'screw it' I'll just post a poll and whichever wins I'll go with... can you see how much my life is ruled by DFW?? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Well here's the pics anyway, excuse how rough I look.. I just want to know if I look better with glasses or without...
Note to mods.. please don't move this.. I value the opinions of everyone on here and don't really venture out of DFW because everyone I know and love is on here!! lol..
I get my glasses and contacts from specsavers. I pay £10 a month for all my lens, solutions, tests etc and I also get 50% off glasses when I need new ones, saving me about £50 the last time I went (very DFW!)

            just found this
i decided to try lenses about 3 years back. it took 6 hours  of lessons to get over my squeamishness about putting them in and taking them out.. only to then find that i just looked downright weird without my glasses. ive since fallen in love with chunky plastic frames, and cant imagine ever wanting to go back to lenses, or getting laser eye surgery (although the peripheral vision was fab) because i love my frames so much.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

I_A - I know you've made your decision but surely the only question here is whether the cost is achievable within your budget?
Having said that, I've been wearing lenses for 15 years now and I don't think I could go back to being a full time specs wearer. I seem to have a low bridge which means glasses always slide down my nose giving me a permanent school marm-ish look. Not the look I was trying to achieve with my trendy plastic rimmed Gucci frames - yeah yeah I know, Gucci, but I saved up for AAAGGGGGEEEEESSS for a decent pair so no-one best start flaming me
My lenses are monthlies which costs me £10 a month. This includes solutions and all after care (which can mount up when you buy your lenses from an online supplier) and I get up to 50% discount on glasses too.
Forgot to say, I also can't drive in my glasses because the peripheral vision is crap! For safety reasons, not vanity (hee hee) i need to wear contacts.Debt Free Nerd No. 89, LBM: April 2006, Debt at highest (Sept 05): £40,939.96
