Hi,
Just tried to cancel my BT Total Broadband contract but they said I'm in a 18 month contract - argghhh! Feel silly now, I know the would be, not the actual broadband!!
I basically NEED a static IP so what else can I do?
Thanks

ask them, though i'm not sure you'll get anywhere. plan b would be to upgrade to a business package, but this, of course, would cost more, plan c, cancel, pay the termination fee and move on.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Hi,
They won't upgrade me to a business plan as I would of done that..!
There is also NO WAY I can get a static IP so stuffed there, so looks like I will have to downgrade to option 1 and cancel which will cost me £250!!
Then I will need to sign up for a new broadband package with someone else with a static IP. Any suggestions?
Thanks0 -
wow, prepared to absorb £250, static ip must mean a lot to you, plenty of isps offering static (single of in blocks of 8 free or 16 charged) 2 off the top of my head are entanet (adsl24, vivacity etc.) and idnet. depends on your usage/requirements as to which is best, but basically for lower usage (or a high budget) i'd go idnet, higher usage its entanet every time.
another option, which looks like it may solve your problem, is dynamic dns, looks like it can redirect a 'static' address to a dynamic one, and the basic package is free! (do i get £125 as a finders fee?) may involve a bit of technical fiddling to get it all working (i assume you have a domain and want traffic redirecting to your own server?)

Downgrading while in Broadband term can cost you though. £40 for the downgrade and £45 if you have free/discounted Home Hub.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

Yes its required by the CCTV monitoring station - its a royal pain! Yes I looked into dyndns, but they don't accept. Maybe I will need to speak to them again. I used dyndns for accessing my PC from work via RDC, but they want a solid static ip argh!
I will look into those ISPs, they sound good!
Thank you! 0 -
will the cameras only communicate with an ip address (ie 87.12.xx.xx) not a domain (https://www.xxxx.com)?
i was hoping drunkstar would jump in with a cheap solution for you, bt must have a package with static ip, much better for them to enable you to use it (at a cost)Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Yeah I would be happy to pay that but I have 14 months of my contract left and I was told only way I could cancel was downgrading to £17.99/month and paying 14 x £17.99...? The £45 would be only in the last few months of the contract or have I been ill in formed?
Yeah they will only work with an IP not HOST.

2nd line? might work out a similar cost over the timeUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

I know nothing about the static IP, only that I have been told we dont do them at all on residential tariffs.
As far as that cost goes on (the £45) AFAIAA as soon as you donwgrade. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -
