Sponsor a Child - which charity is best?

I have been sponsoring a child through Project Mala and have been extremely impressed with what the charity achieves and how it treats its sponsors. Their website is very helpful in answering all the questions a potential sponsor may have. I have been writing a blog, (sponsoraschoolchildinindia) to let people know about my experience of being a Project Mala sponsor and to invite any questions or comments. Best wishes.0

one place I know is sponsorachild.org.uk/different-uk-child-sponsor-charities which is run by SOS Children's Villages but gives an overview of sponsorships from big charities. It might be worth taking into account.0

I am a trustee for a small charity called Mercy Rescue Trust. We run a baby rescue centre in Kitale, Kenya and take in abandoned or orphaned babies with the aim to make them healthy and find good families to foster or adopt them. We have been operation for 4 years and have rescued over 40 babies. We currently have 26 children in our care and are always looking for new sponsors to support them. All of the money goes directly to them or however you request it is spent, e.g. it can go directly towards one particular child or for something such as medical expenses. Please have a look at our website mercyrescue.co.uk or find us on facebook.
We greatly appreciate any sponsorship or donations and would keep you updated with regular newsletters.

As a Plan sponsor I've seen the amazing work they do for children!
I now work for Plan and was extremely concerned to hear of pestering. Please do contact us so we can fully investigate.0 -
The whole charity sector in the UK is awash with different sorts of alternative schemes that basically all come down to raising vital funds that the charities need to further their work. If you are after something more interesting / engaging than a direct debit or single gift then child sponsorship is something that appeals to a lot of people. I guess a word of warning / or something to be aware of at least is that not all charities send your money direct to the child you sponsor but may use it as 'unrestricted' funding - which is nothing to worry about - this is crucial funding for charities that allows them to spend the money where the need is the greatest. It's just good if you know this so that you know whether you're donating to a charity where the money goes right to the specific child you sponsor or to a general 'pot'. It's always worth asking them if you are worried. There's some great information on charities that off child sponsorship here: want2donate.org/sponsor-a-child. The site also has a bunch of other useful looking info on other sorts of UK charities too if child sponsorship isn't your thing. Hope this post helps you make the best choice for you.0
