When my daughter was little she had the same, i ended up taking her to the out of hrs dr, and whilst there was advised to give squash through a straw literally a sip at a time at regular times. They admitted her to hospital as she was dehydrating and i was literally awake all night waking her up to make her drink so she wouldn't need a drip.

She had been ill 24 -48 hrs.

Thankfully she didnt need the drip, and the next day it started out the other end too...!

    Hope josh feels better soon

    I've been Money Tipped!
Once when DS1 was 3 1/2, my doctor suggested giving him some crisps, as this would make him thirsty and help replenish some of the salts he had lost, as it was near on impossible to get him to drink that rehydrating stuff. I'm not suggesting this for your little one at all, as he is too young, just thought I'd post it ... and it always cheers the boys up now, if they've been sick, as they get to eat crisps ... bless them!
    That's Numberwang!
  • Thanks for all your advice,

The GP surgery still refused to see him and I waited for my 4pm appointment which was delayed and we eventually saw the dr at 4.45pm she said he has an ear infection in one ear the other ear is 'pinking' up and so is his throat don't quite know how all that happened and he hasnt even got a temperature so he is home with me now drinking some juice (he won't suffer water) and I am watching him closely.
He has been prescribed amoxycillin so that should fix it.

Thanks once again for all the advice I hope he is feeling better soon x

I know it is the next day and I hope your little man is on the road to recovery but a home made rehydrating mixture that helps a vomiting / diarrhoea child or adult to replace lost minerals is:

    6 level teaspoons SUGAR
    1/2 teaspoon SALT
    750ml cooled boiled WATER

    HTHs
  • Hi everyone,

Joshis still poorly today but if I make sure he is just having little bits at a time he is now managing to keep it down he is still being sick but there must be some getting through because his nappies are fuller today.

He is teething as well back teeth and he isnot happy with that he has had calpol and nurofen but that isn't settling him although he hasn't gota temp its for the pain he is feeling awfully sorry for himself bless

Thanks for all the well wishes. Slapps I would never have thought of jelly what a good idea if he managed to keepit down.

izoomzoom would that be safe to use on a baby of his age ? Very wary of salt I am but if its ok I would give it a go Thanks for the advice

J.S.Otherhalf There are 2 surgeries round here, I used to be with the other one when I had DS1 and when I had PND I went to see them the dr said if I was so depressed by having a baby then he would arrange for social services to come and take him away problem solved I walked out in tears rang HV and she went mad she helped me put a complaint in and thats how I came to be with these ones they are the better ones out of the two but they are pretty awful aswell there does not seem to be anywhere else to go thanks anyway though x

poppy you really should find new doctor am sorry to hear what your last doctor said to you you wee one must have been in such pain sore ears are horrid l used to use a sling when my son was smaller and teething its great for when there teething as they get to struggle up with mummy and you can still use your hands or you could fold a single bedsheet in half depends how tall you are and wrap it round you till it sits at just below your stomach and tie it a bit like a baby hammoch if you look up better baby slings website it explains better

Got the 'recipe' from my DS1 and DS2's child health card (like red book) that was issued in a third world country. It is basically a HM Dioralyte and babies / adults loose a lot of sodium from vomiting / diarrhoea (and sugar obviously gives them a bit of energy) so it helps to give them the essential 'minerals' that they need to get better.

It is really just for when you are stuggling to get liquid into them, because I assure you it don't taste very nice

When my DD was threatened with hospitalisation for dehydration, my GP suggested a frozen ice-pop every 30-60 minutes. Worked a treat.
