Urgent help please - incorrect name on air ticket

I was charged £50 by Jet2 recently to have the name on my ticket changed from my short name (e.g. Bob to Robert) when I forgot it needs to read the same as your passport. I decided to sue via the small claims court under the legislation dealing with unfair terms and conditions in a consumer contract. For all of you claiming back bank charges it is the same legislation and all the good advice around on how to do that applied here as far as I could see. Jet2 initially said they were going to defend the claim but I have now heard they have changed their position, and decided that any change from a shortened to a full version of a name will now be done free of charge - in the light of which they have sent me the £50 plus the £25 it cost to issue the claim. PLEASE TELL ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS BEEN STUNG LIKE THIS AND GET THEM TO PRESS FOR THEIR MONEY BACK!!
That is good information.
When I got my tickets off OnTheBeach, my name was spelled incorrectly. I think that I have spent about £20 on phone calls to them on their 50 pence a minute phone line. They have told me that they will look into refunding these phone call costs but I'm not holding my breath. I will threaten them with small claims should they not give me my money back or not acknowledge my letters.0 -
The airlines will put a note on your booking if you ring up and let them know - HOWEVER they will never guarantee that you will be able to board, it is at the discretion of the check in staff. Also there are some rules of a contract that will state that absolutely no name changes are permitted. So it is different for every person's flight.
In regards to travel agents, because of not being able to guarantee it most will charge you the cost of the cancellation and to rebook a new ticket to cover your backs because if they tell you just to turn up at the airport, they would become liable.0 -
I had this previously where I was given a ticket booked by the company I worked for and didnt check it. When I brought it up at the airport they said that as long as it was obvious that the ticket was mine it wasnt an issue.
In my case it said Nick on the ticket and Nicholas on the passport.Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.0 -
Sounds like they didn't spell the name incorrectly, on GDS reservation systems, the name and title are always merged together on the itinerary.callum9999 wrote: »I know this is an old thread but I didn't really want to start a new one.
Does anyone know how Royal Brunei or the Flight Centre will handle an error? It was obviously a mistake made by the Flight Centre but I had to confirm it was correct before payment so they might blame me for it? They've merged my forename and title so I am listed as being Callummr - I'm just waiting to call them now but does anyone know they are likely to deal with this?0 -
Sorry I know this is an old thread but wondered if anyone had any experience of this. We booked air France flights last night and i didn't notice it wanted the surname first so I've put all our first names where surname should be and vice versa. Phoned up they want £40 per name (on a booking less than 24 hours old) refused to budge on it but said if it came up at the airport it would probably be okay but can't guarantee (2 agents told me this) all names are Spelt correctly just the wrong way round do you think we'll be okay? I worked in travel for 4 years and never did the names that way it was just a genuine mistake0

It is a genuine mistake, they should correct it free.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

^ as above
Having looked at the rest of this thread, do people really not check what they enter?! Nobody ever refers to me as Matthew, but I'd never put Matt when booking a flight or filling out forms. If you know your name is Robert why put Bob?! Doesn't make sense to me...Save £12K in 2013 £4000/90000 -
Personally, I would just turn up and act dumb.
Knowing that potentially you could be dumped off the plane. But i've never actually heard of it happening for a case like you.
Also if you're going to do this be towards the end of the queue, they're losing interest by then. However I'm NOT saying that you WILL get away with it.0 -
I wouldn't risk trying to board without changing it, all you need is one jobsworth and you miss your flight. I would call up and be very apologetic and act a bit dumb, works for me
Repeat until you get someone who is nice and will change the obvious mistake for free.

Well the women I spoke to were both rude and just would not help me out at all. I actually phoned up to check the luggage allowance and the agent spotted the mistake. My FIL has paid for the tickets and I really don't want to tell him about this, we were going to ask at the desk in the airport0
