  • Do you have to give notice to Barclays or do Nationwide handle the transfer when the new ISA is opened?

I should have put £2999 into the Barclays ISA rather than £3000 so that I could open one of the new ISA's in advance of the next tax year with £1.

Just complete Nationwide ISA application + Transfer out form,Post it to address thats stated on one of the forms or hand them in at a Branch.

Nationwide contact Barclays, being as their are no passbooks involved their should be no reason for Barclays to contact the investor. ( if they do it will be to make work for the sake of it)

Barclays have 30 days to complete the transfer of funds,no reason why it cant be done much sooner like KRBS have demonstrated. :T

Nationwides reduction in savings rates took effect today, they have left their fixed rates unchanged for now. :j

    Hi,
I want to open and ISA for myself, I have 3600 to put in it, however when I am trying to apply online, it says select Tax Year and only option i get is 2007/2008, I am just wondering if I open now, would it be not for the year that is going to end in April? Or am i missing something.

Also I have about 7k, I want to invest in savings, is ISA the right way to go or should I put money in savings only account i-e not ISA ? Guidence please. :)

It looks like it isn't taking investments for next tax year yet (2008/9) only present year, wait a bit longer 5/6th April and it should be fine then.

Yes ISA is the right way to go (anything tax free has to be a bonus for this country), unless you don't pay tax of course. The remaining part you may want to consider fixed rate bonds, there are also some tax free ones on NS&I site - linked to rpi that might be ok, savings account etc. It depends on weather you can live with the money being tied up for 6 months a year etc.

No .... as oft repeated, you can only contribute to one cash ISA in a financial year? If I'm reading you correctly you're implying you wish to contribute to 2 separate ISAs in the same year. You can't split the allowance - even by £1.

Suspect you've mis-read an earlier post? ..... which I read as implying that the £1 was an advance contribution for the following year ISA?

  • I really want to open a new ISA with Barclays on this new rate but as a non-customer it states on the site that I have to go into a branch. I'm living in the South of France this year, is there any way I can get around this as a trip back to the UK to open an ISA is just not feasible at the moment. I really want to do something with my £3000 for this tax year before 2008/2009 but it seems that I am at a loss on what to open now.

This tax year I have paid £1,500 into a poorly performing ISA with nationwide. I would like to transfer £9,000 to Lloyds 6.5 one year fixed rate. But leave a small amount + this years £1,500 in Nationwide as I may need to access some money in the next twelve months. Could I do this? Or is it seen as paying into two ISAs in one year? What would be the best way around?

for anyone with an existing tax beater isa wishing to transfer the isa 's full amount over to the new tax haven isa.try contacting barclays to complain as i was given the impression that there are a lot of complaints being recieved already and this may cause a change of heart.

I was told by a barclays representative that managers were discussing the matter and will review the situation.

telephone 0800 282 390 to make a suggestion/complaint and perhaps we could help them reach their decisions soon rather than later.

i explained to them what i would be doing and i think barclays will lose a lot of investors if they dont look after their longer term customers.

all im saying is to make a formal polite complaint, cant hurt eh ;)
