I voted D and thought I would be in the minority - seems I was wrong! I am the one who does everything financial in our household, without me the OH wouldn't even have a proper savings account or an ISA. The monies reclaimed in my signature are all his, and everytime he "just knew" I wouldn't be successful. Yeah, right. I am the one who spots the freebies, I am the one who reminds him to send off for cashback for his mobile phone contract, I am the one who deals with suppliers, I am the one whose account most DD's go from, I am the one who makes the expenses spreadsheet each month to reclaim my half. In fact, the only thing that is his sole financial responsibility is his car. No, I tell a lie. I was the one who told him to shop around when his car insurance ran out in October, and he saved about £200 in the process!
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH
  • It's D here too. I do everything, budegt, product choice, check we're in the black etc, except actually earn the money!
  • same here too! definately D all the way. oh hasnt got a clue about any of our finances and dont think he wants to either! if it was left to him, we'd run out of money by the end of the 1st week of the month and the kids would be eating crisps!
must admit i do worry about what would happen to the finances if anything happened to me, but havent got a clue where to start

  • Mostly D for me. He's a bit rubbish with money so it's just better if I do the planning and researching for better products and find out where to get them cheaper (with the aid of this site of course!!) ;)
    Trust me - I'm a scientist!!!

Mortgage - too big to comprehend!

    CC debt - none!
  • I do all of it, and even get my wife's card at the end of the month when there is no money left on it ;)

Yes, interesting how many people are voting D.
But how many of those votes are from women?

Does it not go without saying that the person who goes to moneysavingexpert.com (regardless of gender) will do the financial product choice? Any way of knowing how the voters are split between male and female?
[Though in the divorce settlement poll, more men voted than women, so I may be barking up the wrong tree.]

Sorry, which box was for 'He's in charge of earning and saving, she's in charge of spending?'
  • 'D' but i sometimes get talked into buying un-needed stuffs. My otherhalf isn't great with money, and never worries about it, even when ther is none. He does however look after me when i stress that we wont be able to pay the bills...

    D again

The only thing OH pays from his acc is the rent - and it took 5 months to set up a standing order. He gives me an amount every month towards the bills - and everything comes out of my acc. He keeps whatever is left for bus fares/lunches/general stuff :p

He's awful financially - and its a struggle - it's taken me almost 4 years to get him to open a new bank acc without an overdraft/cheque book as he has this tendency to use his overdraft every month, so we are paying that off month by month.

This month I have taken his credit card off him as he was taking cash out on it

I arrange all major purchases, financial products (he asked me if we had house ins the other day!) savings, holidays, xmas, birthdays etc etc.

He is getting there tho' - he was very proud of my valentines present which he proudly told me cost'£1.99 in the after xmas sale' <sigh. :D
