Complementary flight Upgrades?

I was flying via AA from Chicago once and before boarding a lovely little child threw a paper cup with coke into the bin which was near me and the coke sprayed all down me after I had just changed into the clean trousers I had for flying home
I laughed, eventually, and said well there goes my chance of an upgrade. Boarded the flight and we were in the small cabin just behind the first class area and before take off the steward came though and took a couple of single travellers up to first class, so near but yet so far
I wasn't a single traveller though so I wouldn't have been inline for the upgrade anyway. On the flight out to US there was a family of 4 who had obviously booked 2 seats in first class and 2 in economy and spent the flight swapping the kids between these seats, I think had I been seated near them in first class I would have been quite annoyed at all the toing and froing.0 -
I've worked in the hotel industry for 10 years and find it really annoying when people ring to make their booking and ask for a free upgrade. If they are maybe celebrating something and are nice and pleasant then I will either make a note on their booking to upgrade if we have spare rooms or do it there and then if we have plenty of rooms and I know we won't fill the hotel. I have also travelled to many different places and not once have I been upgraded on flights or other hotels; I never ask for it so I suppose if you you dont ask you dont get (though if you do ask with me then you still don't get!)Debt free 2018

My boss, who is a medical doctor, says she and her mum have been upgraded once or twice (without asking). So I think the title Dr certainly helps.
Someone else told me she and her husband ALWAYS get an upgrade 'because my husband always wears a blazer'. I don't think I believe that one - if only it were that easy! In any event, I don't think Mr violetta would ever embark on holiday wearing a blazer :rotfl:A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0 -
i find i've been upgraded many times when wearing a cravat . also a nice starched white handkerchief in my top pocket works wonders.
major airlines try and update computer software to advise the check-in agent on who should be operationally upgraded but my sartorial elegance seems to win the day.
ba gold exec club ....who needs it?0 -

I knew I'd met you somewhere before! I was the one sat next to you, though I have to say that the evening gown and tiara was feeling rather uncomfortable after seven hours ...x
(I wasn't at all happy at the corgi's having to go in the hold!)Gone ... or have I?0 -
we usually pay, but if we go standard class, we just ask - my boyfriends 6ft8 so needs the legroom, and they usually say yes. otherwise its worth askin for the seats right at the front in standard class as these are always left free (well have been when we've flown) and they have loads of space etc.Wins since June: iPod shuffle 1gb, Samsung g800, cinema ticket, lush retro giftbox, 2x mp3 downloads, a big box of food (???)0
