If they had they would have found this BIG post and associated discussion on the topic.0 -

Unlike Tojo Ralph, this is a criticism of you. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

I am going to Las Vegas this Saturday and have uk domestic flights with BA and international flights with Virgin.sounds brilliant I'm wondering about the likelyhood of a positive outcome on a polite request for Complementary flight upgrades? Somewhere between nonexistent and miniscule. But there's no harm in asking
Any advice, tips, suggestions?? Pay the going rate for an upgraded ticket
Also booking in online @ online check in 24hours before travel, Can I expect to get a better choice of seating than the choices available at the moment. (Apparently the more "desirable seats" are only available at check in?). Sorry, I don't know the answer
Thanks in advance.No worries
In the spirit of a later post of yours.:beer:0 -
Very little chance at all!
Too many people are prepared to pay for it and there are rarely free seats.
Very rarely, a woman travelling alone might get asked (ie if another female passenger requests to be seated next to a female), but it is a very slim possibility.0 -
I put upgrades in the same category as the Loch Ness Monster, the Yeti, Aliens and British Gas getting your bill right.
Huge amounts written about these, lots of very blurred photos and everyone knows someone who knows someone who has first hand experience of this phenomenon.
But there is still NO definitive proof that any of them actually exist - except in the Daily Mail !0 -
Read Air Babylon and find out what checkin staff really think of ALL passengers and the chances they have.
Best chance it for the check in man/women to be a friend or relative then I would say its more or less a certainty you will be bumped up..otherwise ask if they have any deals on upgrade and there can often be room to negotiate if the plane is leaving empty such as after 9/11 when people got either free or paid next to nothing for first classIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
Just finished reading Air Babylon (library book). Takes the lid off some of the airlines doings. I lived in the middle east in the 90's and was upgraded on Emirates to business class once only. Had not asked. I am not to sure why, but I had a grilling by the UK customs on coming through customs. Maybe they thought I was worth watching in case I was guilty of something. I was not, not that stupid. I being a lady was grilled by a UK customs lady officer who although I had a UAE residence visa (been there working for five years) asked me to speak some arabic. I did. She then asked for a translation. Being in the medical business I translated for her. In English it was 'Have you Diarrhea?' That's the truth, a little story I tell and not even my friends believe me.0
