I am sorry, but you are buying the flat, not the front door (well, you probably own some of it). You said there are 4 flats - can't you discuss with the other buyers and see what they think?

Or did you buy the flat just for the front door?

I assumed that this is an entrance door to the hallway from where you would enter your own flat.

I'd have a look at the planning applications on the website, to see if the plans are scanned in on there.
  • the problem is..that the door pictured in the artists impression on the brochure looks great and really suits the build,,,,,,the one that actually that they have put on looks nothin like it,,,it dosnt look right and it looks cheap

OP, I wasn't asking you what the problem was, I understand it and have offered a possible solution.

I was replying to a post by Dozergirl, which I'd obviously taken wrongly and I hope he/she accepts my apologies.

    Sorry Dozergirl.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I think front doors are more important than you give them credit for.

Seriously, if you owned a period property, what looks better - a Georgian Front Door or some bog standard half glazed object that you get in most blocks? I doubt very much that the new door is of a higher spec if it doesn't come with a portico.

When you are selling, it's whether or not a property has kerb appeal that makes them want to look inside.

The builder may well 'reserve the right' just like agents put disclaimers regarding property misdescriptions, but those won't work when faced with Trading Standards. You could probably push the developer harder, depends on just how angry you are!

google planning and the name of your local authority. Most LA websites are rubbish so you have to dig around to find some tiny link that allows you to search for planning applications. Some don't have the full applications online, only a very vague description but many have absolutely everything. In the actual planning file there will be notes from the Conservation Officer about the planned door being refused and what they wanted put in place instead. Whether you get that level of detail online, I don't know.

I usually put the postcode in and 'planning application' as a search in google - find it every time
