I am in love with my Panasonic breadmaker

I've had my SD254 for almost a week now - I've made an Italian Ciabatta, a wholemeal loaf, a sandwich loaf, a gingerbread cake and banana loaf. Everything has turned out brilliantly. Tomorrow will be tear and share bread with sun-dried tomatoes and another banana loaf.
In the Ciabatta and the Sandwich I've used approx 2/3 Tesco own brand strong white and 1/3 value plain flour. Over the weekend I'll have my first attempt with fresh yeast - the nice lady in Tesco gave me about 100grams today.
I think I'm becoming an addict!some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -
interesting point....any supermarkets still giving free yeast??? something I've always wanted to try in my panny is fresh yeast...0

 omg!0

I've had my first disaster with the panny. Made a sandwich loaf tonight and it came out about 4 inches high with the density of a brick   :mad:0

The bread has failed to rise altogether.
Possible causes
- You may have forgotten to add the dry yeast.
- The yeast’s ability to ferment has weakened.
- The bread will not mix or therefore rise if you forget to attach the kneading blade.
- If there is a fluctuation in the power supply while the breadmaker is operating, the resulting bread may not be baked properly.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
None of the above Andy, so I have no idea what has happened.0

And I bought digital scales tonight so I will try again tomorrow0

I get this sometimes, I think different batches of flour can have very different gluten content and it can have a big effect.
These tips have helped me overcome the problem of a difficult bag of flour.
Use 2 crushed vit c tablets or flour improver.
Use an extra 25ml of water for your usual recipe.
mix the yeast with 1tsp of sugar before adding it to the pan.
If none of that works, use the fast bake prog and activate the yeast (add a bit extra) in all of the liquid + 1 tsp of sugar before adding it to the pan.My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I tried the fresh yeast and had my first poor loaf from my panny too!
I used 8mg yeast, put it in the pan first then the flour etc. I did reduce the water by 20ml, maybe that's where I went wrong?? I wanted a crispy crust, LOL, I got that alright!:rotfl: Not in the crisp way of French bread, it's more a crunchy chew! I can see this one lasting a while until we've chewed our way through it!:D
Off to try a fruit loaf now.Preemie hats 9 :j0 -

Hi,
I checked today, and it is 16kg for just under £10. BB end of this year. Still no good for me.
What did shock me was the price of rice - £25+ for 20kg (best basmati). 3kg was just under £5.
Regards,
White0
