Thanks Bertiebots. We have been really careful to follow recipes exactly, so not sure if it would be that? It's really annoying:mad: It worked fine the first few times.

I don't know much about bread makers but this sounds like there's something wrong with the machine, rather than what you're putting in it ... Is the paddle turning properly?

Hiya, yes the paddle is turning fine when breadmaker empty, but I think there may be a problem when it's working.

The last two loaves we've tried have come out really flat. We changed from Hovis Yeast to some other brand (comes in an orange packet?) because our 3 hour loaves weren't rising much and the new stuff is worse. The texture is OK, but the loaves are only about 4 inches high!

However we've stopped adding salt, but it's been fine for several months without. Will have to go back to the 'proper' recipe and see if we can where it's what's gone wrong.

    hi everyone,

My Panny has finally arrived, didn't get it until I got home from work so it was too late to make a loaf for dinner, but I plan to set it later and wake up to lovely fresh bread, and if that one goes well set it again for coming home as its beef casserole in the slow cooker for dinner!

Will let you all know tomorrow how it turns out. Can I just check that the basic loaf doesn't need milk/powder? I brought some cause it has been mentioned before but the recipe in the book doesn't mention it??

    Thanks in advance.

got my panasonic sd 254 last week - we thought we were doing well with my mum's borrowed old hinari breadmaker - oh my goodness - how wrong was I??

the bread from this thing is beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have made basic white and also soda bread so far - both beautiful - next on the list is some form of soft white roll and the pizza dough

Its even better i've found if you do the basic dough, take it out and divide into two bread pans (courtesy of poundland). You get two loves that are bigger in length (although slightly smaller in size) than the basic and WOW !! :)

I was bought the panny sd255 for mother's day this year:j , have had three breadmakers before this but have to say this one is fab. The consistency and quality of the bread it produces knocks spots off all the others I have had, a morphy richards, a russell hobbs and a basic cookworks type one.
So far I have made the basic white, a wholemeal, a granary, a spicy fruit loaf, rolls and pizza dough, just cooking a sunflower seed and honey.
:D Love all the recipes in the instruction book, most of the others only had a few recipes included.
OH is already fed up of hearing me going on about this one, have to say I also thought the bread that the others produced was okay but there is no comparison to what the panny is turning out:D :D:D
