Parking fine / penalty notice

Hello to everyone,

I got a parking fine for a princely sum of 50 pounds. I thought it was unfair so decided to appeal, which automatically raises the fine to 100 pounds should your appeal fail, and fail it did.

I have read loads of other previous threads about people who had similar circumstances but then no one went on to say if their appeals were successful. I have 1 marked down on the ticket (parking during restricted time). It was on a single yellow but there was no signage at the entrance of the street, which is a one way street, to say it was restricted. Before parking, I looked all over the street for a sign restricting parking and found none, so assumed it was okay to park. The road is in one of those resident parking zones, but it wasn't a resident bay, and apparently the signs are at the start of the zone, approximately a mile from where I parked my car.

Any help from any of those who've had parking tickets or are in the know would be gratefully received.

  • I got a ticket for parking on a single yellow a lot of years ago. I was collecting vaccine for a health visitor for a clinic on the fourth floor of a health centre, I had done the same thing the week before and seen a traffic warden and asked her if it was ok to do this and she said well technically you are loading and unloading which is what a single yellow line is for. So I was mad when I got the ticket and decided to take it to court as I felt really strongly about it. I filled it in and forgot all about it until a policeman came to my door with a summons to go to court about 1 year later, I nearly passed out as it was all so official. I approached the local police station as that is who the traffic wardens worked for at that time and they backed the TW to the hilt, anyway I sat in court for like 4 hours as all the people with solicitors got called first for it to be adjourned all I got to do was say my name. Got called bout 6 months later and the same thing again had to wait until the end as I was representing myself, only that day a joyrider was there as he had killed someone the night before. I have to say it was a horrendous experience. Any how I got before the judge and he obviously thought the same as me to bring me before a court for parking on a single yellow was mad, and I got off on a technicality without even having to say a word, and I had it all rehearsed! Would I do it all again? I dont think so as it took about 10 years off my life span and the fine was only £22 in them days

Excuse my ignorance, but isn't the single yellow sufficient to say 'no parking'?

  • hey broke mum, wow sounds like you had a tough time there. Well done for weathering it out, don't know if I would've done that and the fine is now 100 pounds. Glad they decriminalised parking fines, so silly to get the police involved. Hope I'm as jammy as you in getting off this one

jeannie, no you can park on single yellows at certain times. Double yellows are ones where you can't park at all.

Also see the forums at pepipoo.com for these sorts of issues.
  • Why the insults??

The OP asked a perfectly reasonable question, was polite and courteous.

There are countless of example in which tickets were incorrectly issued and this may well be one of them

I've noticed how ratty your posts are getting these days, Conor. Are you OK?

Perhaps you're right Jeannieblue, but I have always found Conor's posts interesting and informative and a great insight into the trials and tribulations of being a truck driver. I have become far more tolerant and respectful of trucks when I'm driving as a result. But lately he just seems to bite everyone's head off, and my concern is genuine.
