The docking of dogs' tails has been banned in Scotland, without any exception for working dogs, under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 with effect from 30 April 2007.

Vets will be rather busy in Carlisle, Hexham, Berwick and other towns close to the border then!

  • Hi Debt Free Chick,

I agree with your post entirely.

Our Roly has about the same amount of tail as your lovely springer - I wasn't clear in my posting when I said he was three quarter docked - that's the amount he has left! Doh!

Here's Roly Dog looking a bit handsome (even if I do say so myself :D )

You can't actually see his tail in this picture - but it is a very fluffy flag!

We had a boxer a few years ago with a tail, we were forever being stopped and asked if he was boxer or a boxer cross. I think it's because people aren't used to seeing them with tails.
Our vet even said how nice it was to see one with a tail.
If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.
    ROCK IT DON'T STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BE GOOD OR BE GOOD AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for all your kind replies. looks like I will have to get one with a tail then, my husband is sharpenning the meat cleaver as I type!! Get real, dogs have been docked for hundreds of years.

To offer some defense to the OP, some dogs do look better with a docked tail and dare I say it and in some breeds like Dobermanns, Boxers & Great Danes they look even better with the trimmed ears so they stand up as well as a docked tail. But I couldnt put a dog through that so would never choose one of those breeds.[/QU

i completely disagree. i had a doberman a few years ago and i bought him with his tail intact. he was an absolute beauty, people used to stop me everywhere i went asking the same question was he a doby and when answering yes i never had one person who said the tail should have been docked.

he lived with me for 10 years before he went to the fields in the sky, tail and all.
  • should have also said i would no more have had his tail cut off than his head.

Could you explain why that makes it right?

Assuming you aren't simply a troll, your comments are absolutely mindless. Because it's happened for hundreds of years it's ok is it ? Female circumcision has been around for hundreds of years, and is a barbaric and painful way to mutilate someone for your own selfish twisted reasons. Perhaps you'd like to give that a try?

Assuming the OP isn't a troll, and it's no longer legal to dock tails, would one of the board guides like to flag the OP's IP address and let the RSPCA know of their intention to break the law and commit cruelty to animals?

I can't see there's much point in posting any more comments in relation to this ill-educated and boorish individual.

She clearly thinks it's all a huge joke.

My sincere sympathies are with any animal that this half-wit might bring into her home.
