I looked at that website anna42hmr posted. The picture full of docked tails is sickening.0

No, not for me its nothing to do with familiarity, its all to do with style, and I do believe that certain breeds do look better when ears and tails are docked, just compare a UK to USA dobermann, they are like a different breed. .
Look better? How about we chop of someones ears to make someone look better? We are born how we look, so are animals otherwise they wouldn't be born with them. Ears docking? That is going too far for cosmetic reasons. It's cruel and the poor dogs have no say on the matter.0 -

We do.. people spend thousands putting themselves through mutilating surgery to make themselves 'look better'. The difference here is that the person has made that choice, and regardless of how they look its unethical to put animal through it. Also most pups don't have any form of pain relief when its performed.
Also, damage to a dogs tail is so rare, even when hunting. My Springer has a full tail and regularly goes out in all terrains, gorse, thick forest etc... She occasionally catches the end but it never bothers her. If that argument is being used do we remove all dogs ears, in case they get ear problems, do we remove their legs in case they run in front of a car?! A damaged tail is not life threatening, if they have a problem, amputation is a valid course of treatment, under anaesthetic with adequate post operative pain relief. I have done a few myself and they were all required because the tail got shut in a door by accident, not working, and none were traditionally docked breeds.0 -

Of course the dog has no say in the matter, its a dog
and after seeing the guy in the supermarket today, who looked like the FA cup he could benefit from an ear trim. :rotfl:
Man has shaped dogs for millennia to suit their needs, and the different breeds we have now reflect that.
Now I could never instruct a vet to dock a tail on a pup, but if I came across a blue USA dobermann pup with its ears up and tail docked, could i resist?

Surely this is a wind-up? I notice the OP hasn't been back since, just posted and ran knowing what an emotive subject this would be?
I think the breeds that were customarily docked look fabulous with a waving flag where previously there was a useless stump. And on a personal note, I've always thought boxers were ugly enough without having to see what they had for breakfast too!0 -
Vile, just vile0

I am mad about Boxer dogs and have wanted one for ages, I have finally convinced my husband to get a pet!! I was brought up with them as a child and would love one, however I cant stand the thought of one with a tail, I know this should not make any difference but I hate it so much. Is there anyway of getting a docked puppy?
The only way you will get a puppy is to accept them with a full tail.
If you want a docked dog then you will have to contact a Boxer rescue and take an older dog. A dog is a dog whether it has a tail or not and it seems a shame to be picky about this.
I took a docked Doberman over a year ago and to be honest I never thought anything about whether his tail was docked or not, but I would take a doberman with a tail in a heartbeat too!!! It is the breed I love not just the physical look.0 -

thankyou, i know some people may not be able to stomach the pics (thats why i warned on the prev topic) but they get across the point of the cruelty of this practice for cosmetic reasons

Maybe the OP thought we were all going to bite their ears off :rotfl:0 -
Omg why would you want to do something so cruel to a dog. Its awful, would you like part of you chopped off to suit other people. I hope you don't do this and hope you don't even get a dogMarried 09/09/090
