Having said that, after a few days of watching Jeremy Kyle, Loose Women and Cash in the attic - thats enough to drive anyone to drink
well. it's a funny one....I'm trying to get my head around the reasons why.....
at the moment, I'm craving into tucking into a box of grain snack bars things that arrived in the house...I'm not hungry, I just want one...there's also chocolate fingers, some twirl bars and a packet of Bourbon biscuits....
I could scoff the lot and I'd feel dreadful afterwards but the chilling thing is that I know if I don't have the first biscuit I'm OK.
back to the point:
if you didn't have to work would you drink?
if you were retired and well off, would you find it easier to drink in moderation or would you want to drink more because you were bored?
Id the drink not really much different to the sweets/biscuits cravings BUT with the problem that your judgement is clouded regarding the top-up/second/refill....For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -

It is against the principles of some, but the totally cutting out straight away didn't really work for me - well as most on here know - it did for a few weeks then I went back to where I started. It can also be dangerous to cut right out if you have been heavily drinking for a while.
Yep- have to agree with Alisong and BHB here- stopping suddenly straight away can be harsh and even dangerous. All the diet advice available for overweight people says that a sensible cutting down gradually over a longish period of time, and then maintaining this with a new healthy diet works best for successful weight loss-so why not the same principles for us drinkers? Noone tells overweight people to fast, starve themselves drastically and 'abstain'-the advice is nearly always around moderation and changing attitudes and habits. The only reason I now abstain is because I realise I am powerless over alcohol-its got me beat if I go near it- but being able to get to this point has been a long and gradual process. I've had 7 hospital detox's over the years whereby I've had to stop straight away, and then detoxed under medication-none of them worked because I was never in the right frame of mind to stick to it. I did it Alisong/BHB's way and so far its been the most successful.
Hope everyone is OK and having a chilled evening.

Here's one for you all to ponder:
if you didn't work, would you drink?
Just a quickie cos I'm late for work as usual  I'll pop back when I get to work.
If I didn't work I would have more of a problem with drinking than I do now. Up until last year, for 10 years, I worked up in London and didn't get home till 7.30pm and that's when I started drinking (slightly earlier on the weekend) cos I knew I had to drive myself home from the station, go to tesco and pick the kids up from the childminder. But since last November when I got my current job I'm in by 4.30pm and the beer bell has now moved 3 hours earlier :eek:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
:happylove :happylove :happylove Good Morning All and welcome to the newbies over the last few days.
Had a busy/stressful weekend with kids/Oh etc and very nearly caved in on Saturday night as DH was in a drunken argumentative mood. You know what I mean, .....asks a question which I cant really answer about why I did something years ago ..and then keeps on and on and on .
I told him to shut up & ask me again when he is sober:D
Anyway, I managed to resist & he apologised next day, so all ok again now.
Well here I am DAY 100:T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T

Wow 100 days - that's fantastic - well done!!
Well I didnt see your posts about cutting down gradually until this morning and so last night I'd decided to have an AF night.
The actual not drinking was ok because, well, its only day 1 and I was quite busy ......... but then I went to bed! OMG!! I couldn't sleep, I had a headache, I was having hot sweats and having to get up to pee like every 2 hours .... sorry if this is too much information ....... anyhow this morning I woke up and the bed sheets were soaking from my hot sweats .... I feel sooo ropey, I'm absolutely shattered and my head is banging ...... is this normal? Or just coincidence?
I was expecting to get up this morning feeling fab!

You've scored a century! Wow that's really something esp with OH being like that, well done.
Bis re your work qu: I think I would be too wary to get into trouble - 12 yrs ago I took voluntary redundancy as v generous terms & didn't work for a few months, & straight away a neighbour said oh great we can have 11am sherry together (!!) & I just said there's no way I'm going down that road, & I was really careful not to start any earlier than previously which in those days was 6pm. Mind you, fieldofdreams, my other resolve was no daytime TV & I also stuck to that!!
And Jo - like you am now home much earlier - 2pm - which is why I get into trouble if I have my drinking hat on!!
GK - this is absolutely normal, be careful.
St Swithins day today so if dry then will be for the next 40 days (but if you have an unplanned drink today, forget it)0 -
