  • Well done to everyone for all the successes on here. I may be way behind you all but I will get there eventually

I have had the Allen Carr book on my shelf for a while now but havent got round to reading it:rolleyes: When I recently gave up smoking I found his book very helpful so why it has taken me so long to read it I dont know.

So my first step will be to read it and I will start today:o

nearly there- I've got the Allen Carr 'Easy way for women to control alcohol'- I bought it at the same time I got 'easy way to give up smoking' and 'easy way to control eating - or something' bought them in a job lot from amazon-:rotfl: they all look lovely on my book shelves and haven't been opened !! :rotfl: will have to take a look !! i was feeling a bit saintly when I ordered them and was going to give up everything at once !!
However, I thought blooming heck- one at a time !!

Well went to the gym last night, healthy dinner and one glass that was left over from sunday nights bottle. Bad really but I only had one and didn't fancy another anyhow. Must get out of the habit of every night again.

have a great day everyone, mollypolly, jo, BHB, nearly there, singlemum, ISOM, AB, ltm07, and all newbs x

NTC, I highly recommend this book

No Big Deal by John Coats

It is written by a friend of mine's counsellor, it is kind of AA based and goes through the steps but it doesn't really matter if you follow the steps or not, it's more about John Coats' journey and boy has he had a journey! I can totally relate to the way he justifies his drinking at the beginning of the book. It also goes through the kinda stuff AC does about the brainwashing effect alchohol has. I actually welled up at points in the book (and I was sitting on the train :o )

Please give it a go :)

Right gotta catch up with you all..

Dave, welcome  Good luck for your LFT test, I had mine a few weeks ago and luckily all was okay. Let us know how you get on but in the meantime keep up the good work :D

BHB, how's your counselling going? What sort of counselling is it, are you having cognative behavioural therapy?

ISOM, don't talk to me about weight, I was hoping to lose some as I'm not drinking but after the 4, yes 4, pieces of cake I had yesterday, I doubt that's gonna happen

Deggers, welcome  keep us updated on your progress, we'll kick this nasty habit together! :)

Naomi, welcome  good luck with cutting down the alcohol, pop on over to the giving up smoking thread when you're ready and get all the support your need :)

LTM, well done on controlling your intake :)

NTC, keep posting and getting inspiration hun :)

SM, I have been sleeping so well the past few nights too! The first week was full of vivid dreams but I think I've passed that stage now.

Molly, congrats on 23 days hun, you are fantastic :D

AB, no I'm posting more now cos I can get away with it ;) How you doing?

Basil, one glass is better than one bottle ;) well done :)

Hi Jo - Not actually got that far yet!
I had my initial assessment and the health check, have been for some acupuncture, but the appointment for the counseling was a bit of a while coming through and they booked it for yesterday. Then they phoned last Friday and said the counselor had to be somewhere else at short notice and have now booked me in for may 12th! I think it is CBT based, but will have to wait and see.

Never mind - doing Ok with you lot anyway :D

Must go - need tea and chocolate !

Andy, sounds like the place I used to go to, I'd turn up for my appointment and the receptionist would say 'oh he's stuck in traffic, but he'll be here soon'

Just want to echo what Andy said, thanks to everyone for all the support you give, I really couldn't do it without you lot, I nearly caved a couple of nights ago but thought, what the hell would I tell you lot :rotfl:

Have been trying to catch up with this busy busy thread. It's probably nearly 2 weeks since I posted & I have, like amazon, been absolute rubbish. Tried to get going last week, managed 3 days not drinking at home (though on 2 of them had a couple at lunchtime with friends) incl a FRIDAY NIGHT unheard of for me. Then along came the weekend - was away & got....well, you know. That's OK I thought, my one & only aim is to stop drinking at home (I'm the only "adult" in the house) & I've still stuck to that. BUT last night had a row with OH at his house & came home via the shop & got...well, you know. Anyway, while I'm boring the pants off you I'll go on a bit more.....in those 3 days last week I reckon I saved ie didn't drink 5 bottles wine, ie about £20. Soooooo, I am trying to pluck up the courage to join the local leisure centre, a couple of friends belong but it's £70 a month for me & littlun so I feel I can no way afford it but maybe I can. If I stop drinking 1.5 - 2 bottles at home 5 nights a week (always have 2 nights at OH's). So I must go in & sign up, maybe if I join I'll be too scared to spend more money on wine. Both the friends who belong joined as a way of having something to do other than drinking! - there's a lot of us about. And I might start shifting the 20lbs round my middle before the warm weather comes & it all hangs out. I have tried before to work out how much I spend on wine, & when it came out at £2k a year I freaked. I'm still scared about committing the money up front to swimming though. Sorry to drone on I really don't like myself very much at the moment. Congrats to everyone who is being so good off the sherbets, & Amazon let's start over. Tomorrow, for me. NT thanks for mentioning Allen Carr I had no idea he'd written an alcohol book. I read the smoking one, several times!, have not had a cig for 3 yrs & 3 months after 30 years of puffing (I started VERY young....). I've droned on again. Sorry.
