Buying a slow cooker (which? & why?)

I'm sure the Morphy Richards one will be plenty big enough. You are only supposed to fill it up to 4.5l (which is still loads) because if you fill it to the brim it might not cook properly. I have filled it to the brim before (I just made sure I kept stirring it every now and then) and I managed to serve 12 people out of it (we had chilli in the slow cooker and jacket pots done in the oven).
You can also fit a big chicken in it, I managed to feed the 2 of us (with big appetites) for 3 days on a medium size one which fits in with plenty of room to spare. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
Tefal have something that is a rice cooker, steamer and slow cooker.
Here
Is it any good. Any one here got one? Any thoughts about it.
I know it is a little bit pricey but then it does do 3 things so saves having to have different gadets in your house.

The 2 reviews on that link are good! One criticism I can see from the Slow Cooker brigade is that the bowl size is a little on the small size at 3.2ltrs, otherwise it looks like a handy piece of equipment, especially if your kitchen is too small for all these separate gadgets.0

I did read the two reviews.
But two reviews is not enough for me. I would really like to chat to someone who has one.
They do seem good. I don't have a really small kitchen but I already have a steamer. But I don't think the steamer part is going to big enough. As I have 3 tier one and always use 3 tiers for cooking sunday lunch.
If they did a bigger one I might buy one.

I have one that I bought on ebay (graded) and I'm pleased with it although I don't have anything to compare it with. It cooks enough rice for our family of six (four adult appetites, two children) and as a slow cooker it is big enough for one meal for all of us. I'd have thought you'd have got a small joint of beef in one but probably not a whole chicken. I've tried steaming at the same time as cooking rice and it was fine for this too - took longer than it said but that was because Ididn't cut the pieces small enough.
Can't think of anything bad to say about it!0 -

I got mine because someone on here recommended it, can't remember who it was but try 'Search this thread'. It certainly wouldn't replace your steamer - I've done cabbage for us - no room for any more though!0 -
Thanks Sue,
You have made my mind up. I will leave it for the time being.

I had a slow cooker years ago by Tower but I ended up not using it because even on the low setting food caught on the bottom unless you stirred it frequently so you couldn't go out and leave it which rather defeats the object of the exercise. I usually use my pressure cooker for stews as it seems to tenderise stewing steak really well. However reading this thread, I'm very tempted to try again with a new one. I'd really appreciate it if someone with the Morphy Richards could say whether food ever catches. Is it more of a problem if you have the larger size and only put small quantities in? If so I might go for the small one.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I have the large MR 6.5L, as do quite a few others here, and I've only ever once had some of the sauce catch on the side and burn a bit, but it was a very thick sauce I was using and not much of it in relation to the size of the pot. So in general I have no complaints with it whatsoever and would definitely recommend it"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Thanks very much. I can see myself using it overnight for porridge which I now make every day (good for DH's cholesterol - and very cheap!!) and if anything would be likely to catch it's thatIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
