Buying a slow cooker (which? & why?)

I ordered a small, two person slow cooker yesterday - can't wait for it to arrive! Am v. excited by the thought of coming home to yummy smells and a nourishing meal. Now all I have to do is wade through all of the slow cooker posts on this board and note down useful ideas. I have a funny feeling that I might be here for most of the morning..........0

.....so the manuals do say don't expect a tight fitting lid. I'm sure yours will be absolutely fine - so get cooking
Thanks Newbird,
Al told me much the same thing but I was just a little concerned with the first lid I encountered. There was a tremendous amount of play in it.
I really need to get the beast fired up soon and see what it can do.

I know it's been reported lately that Amazon and Argos have it cheaper, but...
Robert Dyas is currently selling the MR 6.5l for £24.99, and the 3.5l for 19.99.
Hope this info is of use to somebody.Operation Get in Shape

I was amazed at the price of Tesco's stick blenders, they are less than a fiver, I don't know how they can even make them for that price?Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I bought a slow cooker today.
3.5L job in argos Cordon Bleu which seems to be there own make. As the guarantor is Argos.
Anyway might have a go at a rice pudding later. And I only paid £6.49 for it as it was reduced and I had £5 in nectar points.
The lids does seem a little loose but will wait and see what happens.

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive and getting v impatient! Admittedly I only ordered it on Saturday and it takes 3-4 working days to arrive, but that doesn't stop me wanting it NOW!!!0

I have got mine on now with a rice pudding in. But there was two things I forgot to do.
1) grease the crock
2) heat the milk up it was just cold mik straight from the fridge. It never said to heat it up. And by the time I read the front part of the booklet it said to always use boiling liquids
And it does smell a bit but I think that is because it is new and getting hot it will smell a bit.
So fingers crossed rice pudding for tea. Yum

And the rice pudding was delish and my husband loved it too. And tons left for tomorrow lunch time.
Next time I will use less time. As this was a little bit to tender for me. Prefer my rice to have some shape to it :rotfl:
So thanks to you all for suggesting a slow cooker.

...few ingredients that I have left. I don't want to throw them away which is what I would have done a few months ago.
Would like to have something that will freeze easily for when I come back after being away for 6 days and there is not any fresh ingredients or any time to go shopping immediately.
I have one red onion and one white onion and two smallish potatoes to use up.
In the cupboard I have pasta, bulgar wheat, baked beans, chopped tomatoes, various herbs, corned beef, tinned sweetcorn, tuna, sardines and mackerel.
In the freezer I have some frozen mixed veg, some bacon and some beef mince.
I'd like to make something that I could ideally have for dinner in the next couple of days, take one portion to work for lunch so needs to be something I can reheat in the microwave and freeze the other portion(s) for when I come back from Xmas hols.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. :xmassmile0
