Apart from the full chicken, wouldn't fish and chicken pieces cook too quickly to justify the cooker?
What else could I use it for? I already use a pressure cooker for soups (and very little else).
I would like one but can't justify the expense and the storeage space in the kitchen
Do I remain sensible or get one anyway?
I use mine for soups, casseroles, curry, bolognaise, braising joints/bacon, puddings cooked bain-marie and keeping HM yoghurt warm while yogging.
I never use the Slo-cooker for fish or chicken. Fish I prefer cooked lightly and quickly and chicken on the bone I find makes the stock/sauce to greasy to use and off the bone it is dry.
IMO I don't think you would get enough use out of one to justify the cost. Your pressure cooker will do most jobs just as well (I'm scared of them when they start hissing so I gave mine away):o HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
i had a fab meal, put the casserole on at 9am this morning, so most of the helpful posts were too late, but never mind, can keep notes for next time.
Hubby sarcastically said to me, will be eating HM casserole tonight, or will it be takeaway!!! proved him wrong, as everything was finished, clean bowl and all that!!
off to hunt down my next recipe
i'm not much of a cooking person, but aint casserole and stew, kinda the same0 -
Hello Bonvonnie,
We had stews in the Army… beef, onions, various vegetables and so on boiled to death for hours on end in a huge cauldron thingy then slopped out into our mess tins.Casseroles …now I’m guessing a little here, are essentially just …. Posh Stews – lol. There may be more to it than that, as I think the cooking in the oven as opposed to on top of the stove has something to do with it too.
