It's a good idea to have a large slow cooker so that you can make double or triple portions and freeze them for another time.
Only one problem with Amazon is that you have to pay by credit card. Much better to pay by cash I think.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
I was looking on the Argos site for slow cookers yesterday. I wanted an oval one (as recommended by slow cooker users which would fit joints/whole chicken more easily than a round one). I was so busy making sure it was oval that I ended up reserving & getting the MR 6.5l one for £22.49 ..ish. I wanted a 3.5l one...lol. It's HUGE...but having said that, I'll be able to freeze some...hopefully. Search Argos for Catalogue No. 4207593...that's the one I got and it looks pretty impressive - not used it yet thoOwned by [STRIKE]4[/STRIKE] 4 cats: 2 x Maine coon cross males, 1 x Pixie Bob male and[STRIKE] 2[/STRIKE] 1 x Norwegian Forest male....cute!

I don't have a proper cooker just now, so I had to brown the sausages on my George Foreman grill & they have the barbecue-style stripes from it on them0 -
I know slo-cookers are quite cheap down the shops now but if you can bear to wait and have a good look around or just want a second back-up i would recomend you loacl car-boot. You are always guarenteed that someone somewhere will have a slo-cooker for sale. The same applies for heated rollers they just migrate to the nearest car-boot and wait. Infact I'm not sure you are allowed to do a car-boot unless you have a slo-cooker or a set of carmans to sell;)
I recently picked up a huge delonghi all singing all dancing programmable slo-cooker for £4 I guess it cost well over £50 when new and it doesn't look used.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
I have been tempted by this thread to get a slow cooker BUTcommon sense steps in. The only meat we eat is chicken/turkey and fish.
Apart from the full chicken, wouldn't fish and chicken pieces cook too quickly to justify the cooker?
What else could I use it for? I already use a pressure cooker for soups (and very little else).
I would like one but can't justify the expense and the storeage space in the kitchen
Do I remain sensible or get one anyway?0 -

Well, I do cook chicken pieces in mine, but have to say that if you really only want to cook full chickens in one, then sense must prevail and you'd be better off saving your money.
(Stands back in horror - have I just told someone NOT to buy a slow cooker ?????)0 -
I cook soups, stews and vegetable curry in my slow cooker as well as a whole joint of meat like gammon."This site is addictive!"
