Crockpot SCV1600BS Saute Slow Cooker 5.7L
It' s more expensive than most, but you can use it on the hob, in the oven and in the microwave. So you can brown meat and veg etc. in the same pan and save on washing up. Brilliant for bulk cooking but will also do smaller amounts.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500 -
Hi, I have a 6lt Russell Hobbs one and love it. I use it for batch cooking every weekend and it's probably 2/3 full. Provides plenty for the freezer and of the course of a month, I can make enough meals to provide a variety of meals for a 6-8 week iPod. Highly recommend it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys
We had a cheap ASDA one too, HappyMJ - but I agree, it was a little small for bulk cooking.
Thanks for your input mummyjane about using it less. I would like to do joints/chickens in it though I'm going to take into account your suggestion of not going too big
I do like the idea of the saute one - to save having to find another pan for brown meat first - but think I'll investigate the Morphy Richards or Russell Hobbs ones, or try to find a 4ltr one like mummyjane suggests.0 -
I have a Crockpot one, but I have to admit I wouldn't buy another one. Not because its not great, because it is, but the bowl is narrower at the bottom than it is at the top (iykwim) and its a bit of a pain when it comes to fitting in a whole chicken or a large joint even though it is a 3 or 4L one. Just a tip for you to think about!0

I have a small one to use when needed, but my big, basic Tower slow cooker is 20+ years old, average use 2-3 x a week.0

We have a large crock pot - bought for us as a present a few Christmases ago. I have just checked it out at argos 934/9731 - £59.99 - yikes !!
I wouldnt recommend the crock pot. It always sticks and you cannot see through the lid to see if its bubbling etc.
We also have one of these (argos 422/8826) and it's great - large capacity, see through lid, never sticks and almost a third of the price
Hope this helps.0 -

Hey I have a Tesco Slow Cooker and the instructions tell me not to put the ceramic pot in the oven. Just wondering whether anyone knows if it would be safe to put it in the oven for 15 mins to brown off the top of things every once in a while or would it be a big mistake?
I've never really been one for following instructions...0 -
