  • Thanks guys

Im feeling a bit sorry for myself at the mo (blame the time of the month - probably part of the chocolate urges as well!)

    Will keep plodding along.

Could cancel second holiday and only lose £14 deposit. Dont pay balance until June so will review closer to the time if Im doing ok then will go if all gone pear shaped then will cancel.

Daft thing is its me that wants to do things for the kids ie the two holidays. I want them to be happy and I know that isnt all about money but holidays can be such fun and something they will remember.

good plan about reviewing the istuation at a later date.

I think you're right about wanting the children to experience things, and not wanting them to miss out. The fact that our kids are too young to remember anything is one reason we have never had a family holiday. But I would fight to the death before giving up DD's music class because she gains so much from it. I always said I would never give up my gym membership or the kids activities (tumble tots, swimming, gymnastics etc.) but in the end I had to give up everything else, and as soon as we have even a tiny bit of spare cash, Im rejoining everything.
  • Feeling rubbish today  , brain not working and spent far too much in town today. Please let it be hormones so I can feel better soon:rotfl: .

    Easter eggs, 7.05
Mothers day cards £10.00 (forgot how expensive they can be)
Key cut £6 (down to one front door key)
    Parking £1
    Groceries Aldi and Butcher £23.05
    Football boots £8

    Nearly £50

Still got tonight to go I hope my mood lifts. Weekly shop tomorrow, aiming for under £35. Not sure if this shopping elsewhere is helping may be better sticking to weekly Mr T shop. Just hate adding to the profits when no deals about.

Better go cook dinner for the family.

Thanks Sassamac sorry I forgot to read the posts properly. Kids do make you want to give them all you can dont they. I dont want to spoil them but do want them to be happy. Family holidays werent important when little but as they get older they really enjoy them. Its not the end of the world if we dont go.

Better log off now to go get ready and I still dont think brain is quite right.

  • Feeling much better today. Need to get off here and get ready for babysitting duties though.

Not sure whether to see the doctor about mood swings. They do tend to coincide with the cycle and vary in strength each month. Sometimes a tiny bit tearful to quite lengthy snappiness and negative feelings, Its so frustrating when the brain doesnt work properly making me think I too stupid.

Money wise I have made a bit of progress researching Amazon to sell OH's Startrek DVD box sets. Not listed yet but its a start.

Spent £30 last night but it was fun probably not out again until April work do.

Lunch wise only spent £1.86 and £1 was an evening urge so much better than normal so again more progress. Hopefully keep that up will help offset the unplanned night out cost.

Sorry for being a misery but its nice to have somewhere to offload a bit.

  • £2 to DD1 for sweets for the her and the others but other than that a no spend day! Still got the weekly shop to do really running out of some essentials. Had another unexpected teary session midday, been fine since.

Looked at Match Betting earlier. Pretty much understand the concept but not sure if Ive got the concentration levels to keep it up. Its not something I can rush at so will leave until I feel stronger.

Tempted to see if there are any hours at the new bookies just opened near by. Worked in the town branch 10 years ago and its fairly easy. Need to work out if the extra income will be worth it after tax and tax credit. Also dont think it will go down well with OH. Need to make sure I dont overdo it as main job can be demanding.

OH is lovely and cares for me but I do wish he would take responsibility over some things.

    hi there

just hopped onto your thread from another one!

from reading through, you might benefit from a spending diary as there are lots of odd spends that add up, including choc and lunches. the thing is, you don't need to stop them just buy them cheaper in advance and have them at work/in the car.

i really hate having to pay over the odds for stuff and so always make sure i've got stuff in that was bought at cheap prices. eg. i get 31p wine gums from supermarkets - i was in woolworths and i fancied some, but they only had brand name ones for over £1, so i did without on principle. plus i keep a stock of crisps, soups, choc, biscs in my locker at work.

also the mother's day cards! i have to say i have done this before at christmas - left it till the last minute, so only the dear ones left....

also re. sky - it's the sports and the movies that make it really dear. if OH loves sports, why not get rid of the movies - there are some free movie channels plus loads on the rest of telly - that would save nearly £20 a month, and be a compromise.

    good luck x
  • Spooky was just about to post!

Hi Sazzacat thanks for your post.

£20 with sky sounds good when I have rung up they only said I could save £4.50 and lose Disney movies which the kids like so thought it wasnt worth it. Will call again in the week to see if a better option available. They are wise to my threats to cancel so that dont work  . Even if just £4.50 I will give it a go, it all adds up.

I have been trying to keep the weekly shop down by not buying too many treats. Think this might be backfiring with my recent little £1 here and there spends on chocolate. Spent £36 in Tescos earlier which included £12.50 on flowers but no frozen food for meals. Hoping to stretch the freezer supplies a bit (not thats there is much but a couple of meals I hadnt included in my mealplan). Again no treats and now kids (and me:o ) looking for pudding. They dont get pudding very often and Ive been putting it off for the last few days (they are not happy).

I have been using spending diary and this is probably where I am actually realising how money can disappear so easily. I budget each month thinking I have x amount spare but come the end of the month x is always a lot lower.

Moods much better today :T , A cold has appeared from no where  . I am usually really lucky and get one a year but this is the second since December, bother!

Hi Wendy, glad your feeling better today, apart from the cold that is. Hormones are awful things and I'm like you, I get very teary. I can't say I suffer with mood swings but my eyes will fill with tears for no apparent reason.

Hi Wendy, hope your mood soon settles and you are able to think clearly again.
I agree with the above about buying snacks in advance. We never buy full size choc bars but get multipacks like penguins, wagon wheels etc but unbranded ones, if we fancy chocolate.
Also do you enjoy baking? We rarely do a proper pudding but theres often homemade cake or biscuits as a sweet treat for minimal cost. Sounds like you've done well with keeping the weekly shop to a minimum this week.

Good luck working out whether an extra job would benefit you. I tried using entitled to to work all that out and got confused last time. Whats your current work / life balance? how many hours do you do?
