  • Total spend today £50. Really could do with some no spend days

Got £10 bowling money back and ordered cheapest meal on the menu but now owe £40 for everyones hair cut. Thats £80 if done every six months and the OH and babyboy will need it cut more often. Me thinks £70 a tad unrealistic.

On a lovely note got an early Mothers day present from OH. A new computer chair. Not the most romantic of gifts but needed, so very much appreicated. He can be so thoughtful on occasions.

  • Hi Wendy, well done on starting a diary. Hopefully this will be the thing that makes your flickering LBM into a full beam and will help you stick to your budgets.

Well done ong etting your bowling money back and heres hoping for some NSD's soon.

Sounds like you've made some real progress with cancelling some things already, a great start.

2 holidays does sound excessive when you say it like that, but given that theyre both caravanning, its not as if you're splashing the cash. I guess its just a matter of trying to find the best deal.

How old are your kids? Was wondering if your 'babyboy' like my 'babygirl' is actually a bit too old for that title, but being the youngest it sticks! (DD is 17 months).
  • Baby boy is actually 5 :o ! Sometimes call him little man. Definitely because he is the youngest and almost certainly the last (never say never because he wasnt planned).

The girls are 10 and 7. Isnt it wonderful that children all have such different personalitys?

Just remembered better leave note for milkman :money: .

  • Hi Wendy. Well done for taking the plunge. Tell OH to pay for his own haircuts or offer to do it for him hehehehehe ( wicked cackle) xx
5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
    Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
    Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
    By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.00

  • Thinking of asking him to wash the car, its more brown than grey :o . If I do it it will go through a car wash :p .

Yesterday had to fill up (most will be claimed back from work) and ended up with choccy bar as well! Other than that no spends.

Today no spend so far :j . Eldest got into the new girls football team:T but needs football boots  .

    Not much else to report.

  • Well yesterdays no spend day ruined by a chocolate fix costing £1:o , Also spent £1 on tooth fairy :j but cant help that.

Today I have been sat at my work laptop frantically doing an assignment due tomorrow. I have had a whole month but as usual did s*d all and left it to the last minute. I hope its enough. Serves me right if not:o . To top it all had to spend £4.30 on special delivery to make sure it got there. Otherwise would have been an actual -wait for it -no spend day.

I feel embarassed by others in really tough positions but are able to stick to budgets. Mine is fairly lenient in that £250 for food isnt too bad for a family of 5 but Ill struggle to make that.

The main thing is Im not doing too bad and should be ok. Just need to keep plodding along. Getting my bonus in March so that should cover rest of holiday costs and hopefully a good chunk of car insurance. Would like to pay off in full again but we'll see.

Tescos pay @ pump is a wonderful invention that stops you spending money in petrol station shops.

I would also say dont be embarassed about your struggle to stay on budget. Its all relative, you dont know how tigh their budget is for their situation. Also as your LBM was fairly recent, you dont want to dive in at the deep emd, for fear of falling off the wagon, if you can slowly nudge your allowances down, your more likely to stick to it long term. Its a marathon and not a sprint...

Have you done a snowball (www.whatsthecost.com) to get an exact DFD? I found that really helped in terms of targets because you can plug in every bit of progress and watch the months drop off. I cant wait to see my '61 payments to go' get sub 60, then sub 50...
  • Spending diary is great as you see whats what but can be depressing! It is about plodding, cutting back where you can & remembering to keep it in proportion....re the hols whats booked is booked (& assume you cant cancel at this stage?) but for next year do think about maybe just having one? I know its hard as I've had this debate and decided on no holiday this year as I knew even if I tried to do it cheaply that it would still cost a bomb. I can have just as much fun at the alotment, dont have the hassle/stress of packing etc and ca just chill with peple I dont see often and visit friends but we all have our own DFW journey & ca only do what is right for us individually! Well done on cancelling some of the bits meanwhile! Keep up the good work!
