I love their fresh meat and cheese, excellent quality ,and think that the membership fee is worth it for that alone.

I agree that you have to watch the prices but when they have offers you can save pounds eg my husbands shaver was half the price of anywhere else, loo rolls can be ultra cheap hence people loading their cars to the brim, their own Kirkland washing powder is superb and about £8 for a big box.
I also saved over £250 on 2 pairs of glasses with reactive lens compared to other quotes.

I just had an hour with a "preview pass" and I'm pretty sure I won't be joining!

I could only find ONE item which isn't cheaper on special in main supermarkets, and that's Montana wine (£6 instead of £7.50). Things like drinks, orange juice, smoothies (in fact, most food) plus DAB radios - in fact, everything I noted the price of, was either the same, or in the case of a DAB radio, HIGHER than on the street.

So, what's the point of the place?

I suggest you read the thread from the start if you're thinking of joining - I easily cover the cost my membership in things like bottled water and pigs ears (for the dogs..) This weekend I bought a 2nd 5 litres of Pathclear weedkiller which works out £5 cheaper than b&q or any of the supermarkets.

Oil. Has to be found at a cost of billions, extracted from the earth piped ashore, refined , converted to diesel petrol etc, transported from the refinery to the retailer and it seems to be the end of the world when the price goes to around £1.10 a litre.Strip out the extortionate tax and what does it really cost? However some folk drive for miles using the precious stuff to save money on bottled water! Water falls out of the sky quite regularly at no discernible cost and is transported by rivers which use hardly any fuel at all. When you turn on your tap you have already paid for it and it is ready to drink. Why do people buy it. Is it good value compared to petrol. Get a nice designer Evian bottle ( do we really import water ???) if looking 'cool' is important to you and fill it up from your tap. No-one will know the difference but your wallet might.

Their birthday cakes feed so many and at only £10 (£11 with your choice of message/name Iced on it) they're great value and well tasty. For the past few years we got a blank one for my son and nieces joint birthday bbqs and iced half and half to whatever they were into this year. It always goes down a treat.

The pittas again, the pizzas (take away or eat in) the bake at home ones are lovely but I'm half pushed to get it in the oven.

Their laptop and PC warranties have just gone up to 2 years, tellies are now 5 years (I know all this as my hubby works there - if it hasn;t gone up yet it will do shortly), the opticians are great especially if you can get your frames on a sale (I got D and G frames for less than 20 quid) and lenses automatically come with anti-glare and anti scratch coating which Specsavers automatically charge an extra £30 for.

Their meat is lovely though admittedly expensive, and I usually buy their huge rolls of binbags which never let me down when they're on BOGOF.

I woul buy their loo roll but I have nowhere to stash it! Coleslaw is fab for barbies, and their wraps are lovely, cheap and last ages.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know ;)

Oh - and we used to pay for membership before hubby worked there. I love it - kids books and toys are good, cds and DVDs not so good - stick to Play. I've had a couple of self inflating beds from there, the massive ones that cost 60 quid anywhere else for about 24 quid and they are great for the many guests we have descending on us pretty often!

In answer to the question about staff - staff don't get any special priveleges or discounts on products but they do treat their staff well - good pensions etc and it's a great place to work though they are firm but fair. Staff get free membership for them and their fmaily but that's about it.

    Hope that helps!

ccastley, any idea how many portions can you get from one of their decorated cakes? . We have to cater for 100 + people so were wondering if 2 would be enough.
Haven't bought one for a couple of years so can't remember how many it did.

    Hi Dianasnan,

Sorry I have no idea how many they serve but as someone else said they're very rich! I would say 2 would be fine for 100 (
You know what it's like with cake anyway - not everyone wants some unless all 100 are kids, in which case you're a saint anyway lol) but if you can stretch to 3 you might as well. It lasts well in the fridge, but buy it on the day as they need to be stored in the fridge as well and they are pretty huge unless you have an industrial size refridgerator! They just about fit in a normal fridge but it depends on the sides.

    Hope this helps :)

Costco currently have a large plastic shed on sale (Keter Summit) which we're thinking of buying - has anyone else bought one and if so what do you think of it.

    Cheers,

    I've been Money Tipped!
Thinking of getting my eyes tested and varifocal glasses from Costco, this time around. Bought them there when I first started wearing glasses, normal lenses, is it still cheaper? If I remember, there is quite a number of designer frames at a fraction of the High Street prices.
