Take it back and say you want your money back.
Not too sure about Scotland but in England and Wales you have 6 months regardless of any warranty.
Is there some sort of Trading Standards you can phone. That's what I do when I need consumer advice.
Hi All,
I've had a few problems with a second hand car too but in my experienece garages will not take the car back and give a refund unless the car is actually falling apart.
I spoke to trading standards and what you need to do is find if the faults with the car are in line with the age and condition of the vehicle. The AA should be able to tell you this. If not then you could get a refund.
My car failed its MOT but the garage are going to sort most of it hopefully

Yes moneymiser, I suppose it really depends upon what you want.
If you are happy with the car generally which I was, then ask for repairs.
If there are just too many defects then ask for your money back, car dealers can't just sell you any old nail even if it is an older runaround and don't believe the "sold as seen" guff either.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
Thanks again to everyone for their replies, it's reassuring to know their are like-minded peeps out there! - I'm at a stage now where I just can't decide what to do, the light is once again now lit and I'm going to give it another couple of days again just to see for myself if there is any pattern to the problem (i.e. it's raining here today so if it's dry tomorrow ....) you know that kind of thing. I'll have the AA back out before Friday and hopefully any error codes will show up and they can at least advise me accordingly from a techincal point of view. Still no reply to my email from the dealer, but it's their call - I have the message in my sent box so if things go down the legal route it's obvious I can prove my attempts whereas they are obviously unwilling to commit themselves via this method.0

Hi,
I think there are too many dodgy car dealers out there now giving the good ones a bad name. They think they can get away with murder and talk to you like c#*p when you query something with them.
I wasn't happy when I was driving home after buying the car and tried to reject the sale the next day. Was told that they don't do refunds and its not their problem anymore.
Don't get me wrong I'm sure there are still quite a few good dealers out there so don't shout at me if you are a dealer

The light thats on, emissions light / whatever, it could be perhaps an 02 sensor has gone down? Or cat is b*ggered? I'd get an independent diagnosis now if I were you. But I'm not...It could help you to have an idea of the problem/s now before you tackle them.
I'd email them and phone them and pester them..... :eek:Genie
