Take it back and say you want your money back.

Not too sure about Scotland but in England and Wales you have 6 months regardless of any warranty.

Is there some sort of Trading Standards you can phone. That's what I do when I need consumer advice.

Think that is easier said than done, sadly.

Even when buying a brand new car, they'll insist on repairing it long after you've lost faith in the damn thing.

Agree that Trading Standards is the way to go.

Mark, you said you were contacting them today, any luck?

    Phone these :- Consumer Direct 08454 04 05 06 or visit consumerdirect.gov.uk.

Personally I would give them a ring because they usually ask you for a few details about the company in question for their own records and for if you need to phone them again regarding the same issue.

    HTH :)

BTW, I bought a second hand Mondeo on an 02 plate a couple of years ago. As soon as I had it there was a banging noise coming from the back of the car.

It turned out the rear sub-frame had gone so I took it back and they repaired it.

Fine I thought, carried on and a few weeks later the big thick springy thingy under the wheel arch fell to bits, ( a big lump dropped off whilst driving down the road )

So I took it back but they were tried to tell me my 30 days free warranty was up, the thing was I had already phoned consumer direct and knew my rights and as soon as I told the garage this they bent over backwards so it does work.

I actually emailed them so I had proof of contact although if there isn't a problem on the car at the moment I think it's highly unlikely I can warrent any kind of action. I haven't told THEM the light has went off yet, but even so no reply as yet. If this is an end to the probs (or at least anything potentially major) I will be the happiest bunny around although it will take me a while to feel confident in the car I think!.

I am keeping a close eye on things and may very well phone consumer direct anyway just so I know where I stand legally.
Thanks to everyone so far for their comments.

Even if the light is off, depending on the vehicle, it may show up on the fault code history as to why it was on. Maybe worth getting it read, for your peace of mind.

  • now that's something I didn't think of! Might call the nice man from the AA out again and have another bash at getting them to read the ECU. Thanks JB

If this is what I think it is, the AA tried with their equipment but the patrol-man said the car wouldn't talk to his computer for some strange reason. Could have been misfortunate I guess whereas another patrol-man might have got it without a problem. I'm guessing Tech2 is something along the lines of reading error codes?

yeah, sorry its what VX call the machine for reading that type of ECU
