EDF Standard Tarrif? Give them a call!!!

 I used energywatch site to check I stll had the cheapest supplier in EDF. Strangely, it told me I could save if I "moved" to EDF "online 5"which would have apparently saved me about £130. I rang them to ask if I could go on this tariff instead of the standard tarif and they stated that they had changed their policy that day to say that customers could do this if specifically requested. So if you're on the EDF standard tariff, give them a call, saves moving your supplier and all the hassle that goes with it.

Wonder how many people on here though are on the standard tariff, most people who use MSE are the money savings type, so would have been on online versions 1 to 4. Though maybe they'll let people who are on online 1 - 4 join if the ask specifically - they wouldn't for me and others on here.

  • I have just been on the phone to EDF to try and change from online v1 to v5, they said it's not open to existing customers. The reason I want to change is I used energy help to get the best deal and EDF came up with a £118 saving on v5 compared to v1. E ON were best with £120 saving. I thought EDF might want to retain a loyal customer (i've been with them for a while since they were SEEBOARD in fact). but no. So I will be changing to E ON next week.

It is crazy, I was on EDF Online V1, but they wouldn't switch me to V5.

I've gone Ebico for gas and British Gas for electric, though once I get my cashback from the British Gas switch may move elsewhere.

Ebico is the right price for the gas. EDF V5 is dearer for the gas, but a lot lower for electric, now if only I could find someone who did electric at the EDF price without having to have gas or offer gas at the Ebico rate as well as EDF price or cheaper for electric.

Kick up a stink. I did. I emailed the head man at EDF (text removed by MSE Forum Team)explaining that I liked EDF and didn't particularly want to leave them so why couldn't I as an existing customer transfer from Online V3 to V5. I got an email back today from somebody at EDF asking me for my account numbers whereupon I would be transferred onto V5.

Just rang them up and checked, I'm now on V5 :)

Moral of the story...go straight to the top!!
  • Can anyone explain what these options are for EDF (V1, V5, Online etc).

I'm pretty sure that I'm on the standard tariff with them or I'd know I wasn't  Is there a link somewhere?

EDIT: I'm still searching while waiting for a reply. I should say I have gas and elec via EDF and pay DD. (I checked a comparison about 3/4 months ago and they came up best so I haven't changed. Now I'm thinking I didn';t pay attention to which package from EDF).
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!
  • I rang EDF bout 2 weeks ago to ask if I could switch from online v4 to v5 cos of the savings. Lady I spoke to said she'd put me on hold while she sorted it out for me. As I had read all the other posts with EDF probs I thought it was all going too well! She came back and v sheepishly said she couldn't as it was only for new customers but I could switch somewhere else and then come back as a new customer. She agreed with me that it was crazy but couldn't do anything. I asked for her manager to call me back, which she did and the manager couldn't approve it either. I don't give up so asked the manager to ask her manager as I wouldn't give up until it was sorted. I told them that it cost companies 10 times as much to recruit a new customer as it does to retain a new one. Upshot was that a week later the manager rang me up and said they will be able to switch me over to v5 -result!!:j

Hope this helps if anyone else is struggling with them - just keep asking for the next manager up the chain!

EDF Online tariffs V1 - V5 are tariffs that you could only get online at most if not all were only available if you signed up via a comparison site, they were several hundred pound cheaper (V1 - V4) than the competition for a long time.

V1 being the first before March 2005 and the cheaper, after March 2005 they introduced V2 which was slightly dearer than V2, people on V1 remain on V1 and kept the lower prices (existing customers only type thing), then they brought in V3, V4 and V5. Prices did go up slightly on the online tariffs, but where up until this last price rise on V1 - V4 still way cheaper than the rest.

You would know if you are on the online tariff as it would say for example "Dual Fuel Online V1". on you bill, if on standard it would say something like "Dual Fuel Standard". The online version being a lot cheaper than standard.

Thanks for the post but, I don't see why I should have to chase them as much as that, I asked once and that should be enough. EDF have just lost a customer because of their stupid rules, they should be chasing me I'm the customer. There loss EON's gain.
  • Edf put my Gas up 35% and Elecy 29% so why bother chasing them and being loyal. It was a case of so long suckers as it only took me about 5 minutes to switch provider online.
  • I didn't want to stay with them out of loyalty - the v5 just came up as the cheapest for me when I looked at switching - and it was a free phone number to keep chasing them so that wasn't costing me anything either. I don't do loyalty when it comes to money lol. I worked for one of the big building societies for a long time so I know there will eventually be a manager somewhere that can overide the system.
