My credit card debt situation...

First of all, lets have a round of applause to Rochdale_guy for his outstanding effort of getting rid of his debts.
What an inspiration!
BRAVO!
Bexs:
I think it's only fair to open a new thread of your own. I am sure knowledgeable and nice people in here will be more than happy to help you out there.
BTW, with those figures you provided, I worked out £10600, but you said just £6K.....which one is right?
Also, it might help if you tell people how much of your income could you use to pay off your debts.
The APRs of your cards are quite high, is it possible for you to apply for a couple of low rate cards and possible benefit from their 0% balace transfer offers?
Look forward to seeing more details in the new thread.

Thanks Guest - whoever you are !
bexs - I have a direct debit set up on each of my accounts to take out the minimum amount each month, and they come out of my account within 7 days of me getting paid on the 15th of each month, so its best that way as they take the money then whats left is yours. I just phoned up each of their Customer Service Departments and they sent me the DD mandate forms for the MINIMUM amount..0 -
Rochdale Guy (soon to be Rich dale Guy)
Noticed you're with Nat West
The freephone number for NatWest is 0800 50 50 50
This takes you through to customer services (after you press "2")
Then just ask them to put you through to whichever department you need.
9/10 times no hassle
occasionally I get someone stroppy who tries to ask if I dialled an 0870 number or an 0800 number - just act dumb and tell 'em you pressed re-dial/speed dial
remember to click on to
http://www.saynoto0870.com/
before dialling an expensive 0870 or 0845 number. they may have an 0800 alternative!

Just phoned Capital One about my Visa card account seeing as I'm 39p in credit to see what they could offer me, hesaid you've still got the 1.9% APR on balance transfers until 15th May (not much use to me), then after that it goes up to 10.9% until paid off >:(
I enquired about this 5.9% APR fixed for life and he said "thats for new customers only.... we have been generous and given you a £2,000 credit limit increase but we can't offer you anything lower than 10.9% come 15th May 2004"...
Said the magic words, "I want to terminate my account then," and expected a rabbit to be pulled out of a hat, to which he just said, "we'll tranfer the 39p into your bank account, then send you a letter within 10 days confirming your account is now closed, thankyou, goodbye."
Oh well. :-/
Another useless card account now closed and terminated.
April 12th standings:
MBNA - Zero balance, no new offers made for BT's. :-/
CAP1 - Account closed / terminated 12/4/04 :)
NatW - £30 owed @ 5.9% until cleared. ;D
Amex -£1,324 owed @ 4.9% until cleared :-/
The Amex Blue account has just had £22 added to the balance this month, £15 for their annual fee as I haven't spent on it plus £6 interest charges so thats the only card balance to have gone u :'(.0 -
Oops ! £15 annual fee plus £7 interest charges = £22 !.0

Capital One seem to be the main ones digging their heels in regards better rates. I have taken the advice of someone on one of the other threads, and overpaid by about 50p on both mine and hubby's accounts.
That way it costs them to send statements out each month, and they make nothing whatsoever from us.
I will just use the cards for shuffling debt, unless they give us a better deal.0 -
What happened between end of March and 12th April?? No balance movement at all!! You taking 'time off'?
Don't give up man!0 -
I thought my A&L account was terminated.
I had letter saying so.
Yet today, I get a letter offering me 3.9% on balance transfers until end of September AND a credit limit increase >:(
Martin - you there ?.0 -
Time to move 5 months worth from amex to A&L 8)0
