Good for you! By law you're allowed 10 days anyway.
My son was diagnosed with aspergers when he was 3, (and ADHD) but he was discharged in year 2, at 7. I still do think he has a slight form. he is obssesive, always making charts of data etc, and other little traits, and at times he can sort of "flip" and become unruly, but most of the time now he is fne. Misisng school thankfully doesn't affect him!
I avoid all artificial additives too, and walk to school over 2 miles each way with him to expend his energy! lol

Good luck with your son; you sound like a great mum, anyway.
I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...

Despite my opinions on holidays during term time I commend you too on having a loving son with ADHD and Aspergers. I know only that children with these 'conditions' are hard work within the classroom but also rewarding. I hope that sounds right. I can only imagine what it's like all day every day. Mums like you get my full respect and I wish you and your little boy (and the rest of your family) every happiness. :j

jediteacher, if my kids had lots of time off sick, I wouldn't do it. And they perfom well because I am on hand always to encourage them. I agree if parents don't care, and then dont bother helping them catchup, they may suffer. Provided you ask for whichever work they've missed and go over it with them, I dont see a problem. Yes, my kids are bright, but I am sure you as a teacher know there are many bright kids out there nowhere near reaching their potential due to lack of encouragement at home. Similarly there are many "average" kids achieving top grades because they and their parents put the effort in

I honestly do take my children's education very seriously. Both of my children could read, count to 20 and recite the alphabet before they started school. I have done every parent/pupil course with them at school. I always read to them and made up stories and poems. I am an active helper at my son's school, go on all the school trips and am a member of the PTA and parent council.

However, my hubby earns £240 a week and we have a mortgage and bills. i chose to give up work and stay at home with my children because i believe that is best for them and no amount of money can bring back those early years. We could not do the things we do if we didn't go away in term time, and if I am offered a free holiday I am not going to turn it down. Time with children is precious, the years go so fast. I don't want to look back and think I wish I had done this and that.

My kids have seen the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the beautiful museums and architecture in Prague, the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, the beauty of the French alps, etc etc. They've learned to ski, been to Disneyland Paris, and when they were smaller they had 2 haven holidays a year and came home armed with medals and certificates and won 5 trophies! 3 for children of the week and 2 for other things.

I don't regret a minute. As I said earlier, as long as you get the balance right, i dont see a problem.
I am certainly not shooting you lol; you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.

I feel my kids work extremely hard at school and at home, and they never ask for sweets and things while we're out; I don't go out or buy clothes and stuff, and we love our holidays!

Sorry JT, I am on dial up. Your post wasn't visible when I was writing my first one lol, now there's another!

My son is very good now really. he has been discharged and we were told he has neither condition, but I do feel he has some mild form of aspergers, just in things he does and the way he reacts. he had an incredibly short attention span when he was younger and wouldn't interact with other children at all. he was never still for a minute. In fact, I breast fed him for a year and he fed EVERY 2 HOURS FOR 8 MTHS!! ( And I was 35/6 so no spring chicken)he climbed out of his cot at 12mths and out of his playpen a month later!! he was walking to school with my DD when he was 2. he still now goes to bed well after 10pm, yet is first up. One thing he DOES do is sleep well. Although he isnt in bed as long as kids his age should be, i think he sleeps so soundly he gets good benefit from his sleep! But as I said, he isn't really like a child with real problems now. yes he has his moments, and yes there is definitely something, but in the main we cope with it and it isn't really a problem. I am just grateful and thank God every night that he is healthy and happy.

We were told also, by his reception teacher and the paediatrician that if he'd been brough up in a different environment it probably would have been a different story indeed, so i am not too bad a mum really! lol

I hope you're an English teacher JT, cos I appear to be writing essays. :rotfl: Don't mark them tho, cos although my spelling and grammar is generally good my typing is dire! ;)

I wish we did have more parents like you as you're right I see lots of children who have no home support and this is damaging their education. I just get on my high horse sometimes as I feel teacher's get a very bad press and blamed for all social ills. My friends and family have learnt to just ignore me.

As I mentioned I understand about cost. We don't go on holidays as contrary to popular belief teacher's do not earn a lot of money, I work part time and my husband earns about the same as your and we can't afford the prices charged during school holidays. Ahh, well one day. :rotfl:

Thanks for letting me rant - as I said earlier I didn't mean any offence.

We crossed posts again. I'm not an English teacher - well I teach Year 6 so I teach all the subjects. I'm not working so the red pen has been put away! :rotfl:

You have done a wonderful job with your son. They teacher and paediatrician are right it is often a different story with children from a different environment. You deserve a big pat on the back.

You've got me writing essays now!!! I have to say I really enjoy 'discussing' these issues. I know that sounds sad. ;)

Not at all. It's sometimes nice to have some adult conversation. Much as I adore my kids and love spending time with them, it is nice to be able to branch out a bit LOL
My son is actually having a cuddle in bed with his Daddy and singing songs!!!! My daughter is feeding her hamster after being told to go to bed for the last hour!!!!!!!

Keep a look out for the free Pontins/haven hols because sometimes they have free weekends, and you can always go after school friday and come home sunday night. We actually went after school on the friday with the pontins one and I just rang on the monday ( I know, I'm naughty, good job we don't have the cane any more)

AND you can sometimes fall lucky. We are actually going away May bank hol week this year as I found a great deal, so you can always look. (But our school has an extra 2 days onto the half term, so that's what made it cheap, getting the plane back then.) We go to krakow for 6 nights, and for the 4 of us, flights and a fully fitted apartment, an amazing £380!!!! Flights with easyjet, and I went on the tripadvisor.com forum for acomodation. Food is dirt cheap in Poland too, so it'll be cheaper to eat there than here!
I am the queen of cheap hols. lol

    Good luck anyway.
PS When my DS goes to high school I'm hoping to get a job in a school as a lab technician, so I'll still get school hols off. But then we'll have to pay for hols in hol time, but at least i'll be bringing some dosh in then tho. :D
