GCH or Convectional Electric heater

Hi

I need to heat just a single room (Bedroom) and wondering if a convectional heater would be cheaper or GCH. I do have a GCH but I dont want the other rooms to be heated so I will close all the radiator valves apart from the bedroom ones. One thing is about the cost and also I heard that leaving only 1 radiator opened will spoil the boiler sooner. Is this correct?

Have anyone got any advice pls?

Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

Use Gas CH - it is a 'no contest" - Gas costs about one third of the cost of electricity.

You use gas CH(I assume?) for heating hot water as well as the radiators, it will not "spoil the boiler sooner"!!

Thanks Cardew, that is what I kind of assumed. But I was more worried when someone said, leaving all the radiators closed and opening just one will spoil the radiator.
So you reckon, I can close all except one and still use my Combi-boiler?

The only thing I can think of if you do this is that if the TRV on your one radiator closes, then there will be no way for water to circulate in your system and can break the pumps...however, you should have an automatic bypass valve near your boiler that will prevent this occuring. Might be worth checking (you must have one according to latest regs, but if you system is old, then you may not).
