I got a very similar text message, but it was 20% if you top up by £50, so I ignored it (too much).

Didnt there used to be a limit of £30 credit on a mobile in case of theft etc
    Errrr...come back later ;)

You can only ping £1 a day so would take a long time.

I think that is what the t&cs say, but in reality you can do it twice a day.

To ping a pound, does the sim with the money on it have to be in a phone which is switch on, or can you just leave it in a draw once youve registered

The SIM with the money on it has to be switched on ONLY when you are making the original arrangments to set up the ping. After that, I think you can forget it until you want to check the balance ie zero. Then you can go online and remove the ping set up, then throw the new SIM away.
  • This offer is only applicable to the phone number that receives the text.

Thanks to VeryTrying for clearing up the "pinging" query for me. I had purchased a £5 a short while back to get free delivery on some items from Tesco direct. I will be able to use up credit on this now rather than have seperate number just to use it up. Cheers:T

That's what I do too. I think you'll find that your SIM has £11 on it, so be sure to ping 11 times. Do it morning and evening and you'll soon empty the balance.

When you've finished you MUST MUST MUST go back into the Tesco mobile site with your now empty SIM and cancel the ability to ping to your real number. Otherwise you'll find that your own SIM is permanently locked to the old SIM and you can't ping from any other number.

It might be cheaper just to buy a new SIM from TescoDirect. £11 of airtime costs £5, or £21 costs £10, both with free delivery.

Once you have the new SIM, you can ping-a-pound until the money has all been transferred over to your usual SIM.

When ordering anything from TescoDirect, I always add on a £5 SIM with free delivery instead of paying delivery charges. Then I ping the £11 of airtime over.

Does this still work? It doesn't seem to work for me. The first pound was pinged ok but the next day I got a message saying my parents need to top up before another ping is allowed even though my balance is £9:confused:

I have registered the phones to do so..and have checked the Tesco website but I can't see how I actually request the ping from the receiving phone?

    TIA

"2.To register for the service, customers need to register a Tesco Mobile as a ‘Funder’ and up to ten Tesco Mobile phone numbers as ‘Requestors’. Once registered, a Requestor can request £1 of airtime credit to be transferred from the Funder.

    3. To receive £1 of airtime from the Funder, the Requestor must call 2703 free from their Tesco Mobile. Each time £1 is requested, both the Funder and Requestor will receive text message confirmation. The Funder cannot reject any request.

    4. Only a single £1 of airtime credit can be received by the Requestor in a single 24-hour period. All requests must be made in the UK."
