How much do you allow for yourself...

Hi everyone, just wondering how much cash you allow for personal "spends"? I am trying to be really hard on myself, but often just give up and get another tenner out for those 10 fags or a coffee and a croissant or a lunch at work... thinking £20 a week, but am I being generous? Ideas please!:rotfl:

  • I allow myself £70 per week for food, toiletries, cleaning stuff, going out, random stuff etc I hope to get this down when I am used to it but at the moment am just about managing to make £70-80 per week. I know that this is loads more than lots of other people allow themselves and I am sure I could try harder but I know that if I over do it I will get frustrated and slip up big time - hey I used to spend about £300 a week so this is still a BIG improvement.

  • £10 a day / £300 month for food for 2 adults, 1 child and 2 cats, £10 day for me to spend on "stuff" :)
  • 50 quid a week, although the demon of internet shopping has shafted that this month

but up till this week, that worked and sometimes I even had money left.........
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Hubby and I have a couple of different pots - we allow £100 per month for going out/fun stuff, plus £50 each per month 'pocket money' (mostly clothes for me and computer games for him lol).

I think keeping track of its the key - its not the amount thats importants, its whether you can afford it. Its when I dont keep track and just start spending willy nilly that things go tits up

  • I allow myself about £15 on pay day for treats - which usually consists of bargain hunting at the charity shop! Although, for that I usually end up with clothes, books, albums, or DVDs (second hand of course). Last week's purchases were a next striped shirt (a la Martin Lewis) for work and a pair of Next trousers which still had the tags on. Not bad getting both for £7!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • Well i work week to week but generally i have around £150~£200 per month to play with. However weekly i generally give myself £15 depending on what i am doing. If you want a challange look out for moozies/paps weekly challenge thats posted on saturdays. You pledge what you will spend sunday ~ friday inclusive to help you budget/check your spends etc.
  • I allow roughly £15/week to pay for 'treats' for me,kids clubs and any outings we may do,sometimes I have less than this, but rarely more.

    Hell1,
£20 is the same as my DW & I have each per week for "pocket money", if we don't spend it we just have more for next week, why not keep a spending diary and then you can be the judge of how much you need each week :D

Nothing! we don't budget for treat money, as it would mean cutting something else and rarely have any so just got used to it I suppose. If we are going to have anything then it would be at the end of the month when everything else has been paid etc.
