We don't really have a set amount each to spend week each but I think DH and I get away with £10 each. That is pure spends on the little things as everything else is bought in the big shop.

  • Bows in respect to Lauren. Wow.

I am going to have cut down clearly.

The worse thing is that I thought I was doing quite well..... with my personal spending.
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Nothing really. Shopping is about £50 a week maximum but apart from that, not much. Haircut once every 3 months, maybe 1 piece of clothing a month (from Ebay!), zero social life!!

We dont have a budget for this as such, because at present we are still in a defeceit budget (thanks to a tax credits c0ck up, as of March we should about break even). We have been on a low income for 10 months now. So we pretty much spend nothing on oursleves, well I do, DH spends on a bit on nights out but its not much and not often. The whole 10 months (and longer in most cases) I havent bought alcohol, shoes (my trainers are so battered), clothes (going to have to start raiding charity shops soon), games, books, magazines, nor had a hair cut, or put credit on my mobile. We have the odd treat which comes under the grocery budget, e.g. we had steak and chips one night last month, pain au chocolate when its on offer, and toiletries also come under this. I used to spend quite a bit driving about meeting friends for coffee / days out with the kids, but have put a limit on, if its not within 50 miles I dont go now. We rarely even treat the kids to the softplay centre, they never get bought treat toys or food. All their toys / books are budgetted for.
  • Wow Gemmzie thats incredible - how you you manage £5 a MONTH!! Tips please although I guess it goes along the lines of saying no?! Hugs fr you sassamac - thats hard going....

  • I used to hardly spend anything and get annoyed if I had to spend anything on non essentials but I signed up to the Uneccassary Challenge and now have upto 10 pounds a week so this weeks little treat was a board game reduced to 9.99 which should be loads of fun.

I spend £4.50 a week on Slimming World, once a month I buy their mag at £1.50. I might treat myself to a bar of something, but only if its on offer and then I get the rest of the family a bar too (i.e 4 x kitkat for £1). I recently pushed the boat out and bought something pampery, but I spent boots points on it, dunno if that counts. I think I would feel bad if I gave myself pocket money, it would be on my mind that I should have put it against something else.
  • I do freelance work, so my income varies each month, but once the regular bills have been paid I keep about 25% of anything that's left over for 'treats', and the other 75% goes towards extra debt repayment. When the debt is paid, I'll probably split it 50-50 between fun spends & saving to invest.
