Hi,
Travelling from Birmingham to Perth via Dubai in March. have requested extra leg room seats which I know is very hit and miss.
It looks as though on line check in might be vailable to us, having never done this before and being used to arriving at check in early in the `hope` of getting these seats, ayone know how it works online?
IF my request is noted and acted upon, if I check in online, will extra leg room seats already be allocated?
If it hasn`t, if I check in at the first avalable opportunity (24hrs before), will I have the option of choosing these seats?
How does this work with the second flight (Dubai to Perth) in a different aircraft?
Any other advice/suggestions also welcome.
Thanks in advance.

if i remember right, you can book 24hrs before your first flight, i was online ready 1min after 24hrs to go, glasgow - brisbane via dubai and the amount of seats that were allready booked was about 3/4 of them, so duno how there booked.
if your travelling with kids you can't pre booked the emergency exits.
www.seatguru.com will help with seating plans.
on your second flight you will have allready left by the time the 24hrs before opens so it's pot luck when you get there.
did you book direct or through an agent, they might be able to hel.
hope your not waiting too long in dubai , it's designed for you to shop coz there are not many seats about, plus people lying about all over the place sleeping with one eye open lol0 -
If you are booked on a through ticket, you will check in for the second sector of your journey at the same time as the first flight, so you can select the seat then.
If when you use the online check in the seats that you want are not available, call Emirates customer services. They will tell you if the seats are really available (they pre allocate many before online checkin), and if they can, allocate them to you.
Enjoy! xGone ... or have I?0 -
It is a couple of years since I last used Emirates, but at that time the situation was:
if you were a member of Skywards (their frequent flyer programme) then as soon as you had made your reservation you could call Skywards and they would book a seat for you. However, the only "extra leg-room" seats of which I am aware are those by the emergency exit. Exit row seats can only be given to passengers who are adult and physically fit. Therefore, these seats could only be allocated in person, at check-in, so that the check-in agent can see that you are fit and capable of operating the exit in an emergency. So the only way to get these seats is to arrive very early at check in. I only managed this once: and then they moved me to a different seat (but I didn't mind because the new seat was in business class).
Otherwise, try to fly on their Airbuses rather than Boeings, since the former have rather more leg-room.
Dubai is a far better airport for waiting than any UK airport that I have experienced. The only problem is that there is nowhere to buy an alcoholic drink. Follow the signs to the sleeping lounge, which has some very comfortable reclining chairs with headrests, great for catching up on sleep. Don't forget to set your alarm or you might miss your onward flight.0 -

The little hidden Irish Bar! I don't know how I missed it the first half dozen times I went through Dubai, but when I did stumble upon it the staff told me they had been there for eternity!
It's down one of the quiet transit stretches you wouldn't normally walk down.
Despite being Skywards & working in travel, and knowing Emirates staff, I have only got emergency exits at check-in. I'm just always very early, and normally get them. But the emergency exit next to the window has the door sticking out (not sure if all aircraft) which diminishes the benefit. And if you're on the aisle exit, you'll always get bumped by the people waiting for the toilets.0 -
Anything is better than being squished in a normal seat for 10 hours with the person in front creating because they can`t recline their seat.
Looks like an early arrival at the airport and hopefully being at the front of the queue is the only hope.
Thanks for the reples.0 -

You can't purr at the nice man on the phone like I can ...
He did say that the seat could not be guaranteed until check in, but that can apply to any seat reservation.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I booked a seat with extra legroom online with emirates, by the time I got to the airport check in desk they had moved me miles from where I had booked.
Dubai airport has lots of places to buy alcohol not just the Irish bar, if your a smoker you can sit back and have a beer and a smoke, avoid the "smoking rooms" though, when I tried one it was like the old fog of London town. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0 -

Not quite sure what the point of checking in online is then.
Am I best trying to reserve seats online, perhaps bulkhead seats which might get rid of one problem, then try and be first in the queue in the hope of getting moved to the extra legroom seats??0 -
You are best to ring them, and be first in line! Their customer service staff are excellent.Gone ... or have I?0

My thoughts exactly, I only wanted a window, ended up being squashed in the middle of three seats, but who wants to get to the airport three hours early? I know I don't.There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0
