  • He pays the mortgage and the loan which was all for the house, they are about £760 a month. He also now pays for the council tax because I told him he simply had to thats £155 a month. He has 2 credit cards himself which he pays extra to every month rather than the minimum payments even though they are at 0%???so £150 on those(all for house repairs,a new boiler, etc. He uses any other money he has on bits and pieces for the house and for house repairs. He just had to get £6,500 on one of his cards for quite major roof repairs so its not like he doesnt spend his wages on the house.I just feel that I am under enormous pressure to pay for things I cant and an struggling with my own debt.

As a single parent on IS you would have more money to live on that you currently do. I dont understand why your OH is keeping you in povery and exspecting YOU to pay money for gas/electric and council tax, plus only buying food when you beg him. This is not a healthy financial situation to be in, is he aware how little you have to live on?
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
  • Also just wanted to add that I am in Scotland so I think that makes a big difference to the kind of debt solution I could use.
    Whats CCCS please?
  • I know I would be better off financially as a single parent on benefit but I dont want to do that.He isnt horrible at all just doesnt agree with me on money issues,I think he might use it to control me,or try to.
I really dont think he has any extra to give me.Once he pays for the things he does as I have posted above he should have some cash left but he says he doesnt.
I have to cover on top of my debts, the gas ,elec, food and everything for the kids as well as birthday and xmas for everyone else in both families. He diesnt even buy his own mums mothers day card.I have just always done that, which was okay when I had money but now that I dont I expected him to take over paying for the thing I used to but that doesnt happen.
  • Another reason the credit card debt is so high is that I had no maintenance for 4 months while they sorted out the arrears so I ended up paying for everything with credit cards.
  • I just want to know what I can do about my credit card debts.I didnt expect to start this and end up analysing my relationship too.My partner will take £3,000 of them for me but what can I do about the rest?I would really appreciate some help on how to go about getting a payment plan arranged with the creditors.I have tried before but they just said no.One of them(lloyds cc collections dept) even asked if they could call back later and speak to my husband, the cheek!!!

Sorry but this is a crazy situation to be in! Your only income is child benefit, a few pounds of tax credit and some maintainance arrears that are not guaranteed and will likely decrease once the arrears are paid off? How on earth can you be expected to pay bills and provide for your child on that?
You need to have a big heart to heart with your partner. How long have you been together? Is this a serious relationship - I assume so if you're living together? Is he resentful that you wont go back to work and this is his way of trying to push you into it? You should be working as a team and that means income as well. If he's not prepared to support you then you need means to support yourself which, if you dont want to go back to work, means moving out and claiming single parent benefit.
But could you really not get a job? You could look for something school hours or evenings. And even with regular hours after school childcare costs wouldn't wipe out your earnings. You'd only have to pay for a couple of hours a day.
If you want to be a stay at home mum, and stay with your partner then he needs to be on board and agree to support you.

Sorry rainbowbrite - just crossed posts with your above comment about not analysing your relationship. But fact is even after just paying the council tax you only have £100 income - if I'm reading it right. How can you pay the bills and provide food and the other things you and your child need on just that? Let alone credit card bill on top.
