Competitions Ending

I havent been comping for very long, and i havent won anything yet, but i have to admit i really liked the comps ending threads. as a mum of 12 including a 4 month old, i dont have time to sit and go through each page individually checking for comps i have missed. i have enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and going through one long list that i could see all the comps ending at a glance.
having said that, i do agree about the premature posting- a week or two ahead is too far and people just get confused. maybe a couple of days ahead could be agreed on? or maybe a sub forum (is that the right term?) could be created for those specific threads so that it is there for people who want to use it but not taking up space on the main board.
regarding who posts the threads, i would be happy to volunteer for a day or two per month providing someone explains how to do it!2011- new year, new start.

Hi, I too would like to keep out of the firing line. I was suprised at some of the 'passion' shown here, in the comp forum.
I enjoyed the ending threads - I could come home in the evenings and, as a 'fun' comper, would look through and choose the ones I wanted to enter. However, the Enormous list that appears at the end of any day can take up quite a bit of time to go through. But, each to their own. Why the two could not live side by side, when other sub threads do I don't understand - eg. daily comps, I won etc.
Evolution will take place, things have a way of changing, that life, it changes or dies - oops sorry got a bit philisophical there, the glass of wine must have re-started a brain cell.
I DO agree with josie301 ; that the wording of the poll is confusing - no mention of the ending thread - so I made a guess as to the meaning, hope i voted correctly:rolleyes:

I thought Divadee had already made the decision that they were no more so I don't really understand what this poll will achieve?
Personally I didn't use the lists because I keep up to date with the comps I want to enter each day. They just seemed to cause a lot of arguments with people posting dates that someone else had already said they'd do, etc! This board has been a horrible place lately with all the sniping, arguments, etc.
If they are allowed to be continued then so be it, doesn't really bother me as I just skip those posts like I do with comps that don't interest me.0 -
Could someone be kind enough to simplify and tell me what the OP is exasperated about - I like to think about other people's problems
but if only I got a clue on what you're all about.
edit: I had a look at the comps board. My my you're all taking competitions far too seriously - why seek luck, let luck seek you
thankyou I know my way out :cheesy:0 -
Pros:
Gives the board guides a simple list of threads to be moved to the Game Over board.
Gives compers a simple list of comps to enter before they close.
Simple for new compers/those with little time for comping.
Cons
Intrusive.
Disorganised.
Very time consuming for the compiler.
Other sites already do lists of closing comps.
Vote:
Against the threads
Note:
I thought mpython had a very good idea about an outside forum being set up that could list the closing MSE comps.0 -

If this would involve moving material from Martin's site to somewhere else, you may have to clear it with him. He states very clearly "This site asserts copyright on all comments posted on the board".0 -
To be honest, I was put off using the lists because of all the sniping and back biting going on. I used them occasionally when I had no time to properly search myself but found it very hard to manouvere my way through the 'normal' posts when the 'Ending...' posts were nearly 2 weeks ahead and there were parts 1,2 and 3.
I have noticed a shift in the group dynamic lately, entering compeitions on here used to be fun and casual, now it does seem like a chore, having to cope with the arguements and disagreements and people seeming to take charge when it's not their job.
I too don't see why people are still arguing. We got told what was happening so that should be the end of it. The board guides are here to help keep the forums safe and pleasant to use.
Sorry, but had to actually say something for once!0 -

That's a fair point Lilias. All I'd say in response is that all the comps are from external sites already, so MSE can't assert copyright over them. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings
