That does sound a bit expensive to me but that's just because I live in a town where you can't turn around for seeing a butcher. If you live down south though it's probably cheap. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

Morning fellow OS ers
This morning I'm going to visit a local Farm shop, I have never been to one before so I don't exactly know what/which stuff I should go for, I phoned them yesterday and it was an answering machine message from a very hearty sounding man, listing what they have available.
apples - all sorts
Pears - quite a few different ones
Damsons
Vicky Plums
Kidney Beans
Broad beans
Beef, Lamb, pork, chickens, eggs and cheeses!
I wish he had a website, then I could compare prices! Praps I could barter with him about setting one up for him! LOL:rotfl:
Anyhoo, what do you all suggest I get? I have a few jars saved ready for my first attempt at homemade jam.
My meat stock is nil, been using up my freezer bits, so what meat (Cut of) should I get to make lots of different things?
Thanking you all in advance :TSig ah Sig Ahhh0 -
I wouldn't purposely buy meat just to make stock. I'd buy some meat for cooking and then ask if he has any spare bones, that way you get them for free.0

OOOOOO Good Idea! :T I hadn't even thouht about asking for bones!!! (but I didn't mean stock as in stock, but as in amount in freezer lol)

The cheese counter at our farm shop is far cheaper than Tescos so it's worth a comparison. We like more unusual cheeses which Tesco only tend to stock as part of their Finest (ripoff?) range - we can pick them up at the farm shop much cheaper.
Eggs will almost certainly be cheaper as well, if they have a frozen section check out their fish. We got a kg of frozen smoked haddock filets for £7 ish.0 -
I've been once to a farm shop and would love to go more oftern. I expect the itemsare seasonal so possibly cheaper than supermarket.
What did you buy? :j0 -
right then had my lamb (with loads left, thanks for the ideas guys) and right tasty it was too
back to the question i found quite by accident (got lost) a lovely family owned farm shop, now ive never shopped in a farm shop so i thought i would give it a go for todays veg and they where the best ive ever tasted coz they where picked that day (so they say) but and this is a big but it wasnt that much cheaper than the supermarkets in fact a couple of the items were a little dearer
so the question is do i stay with the farm shop and give my money to the local farmers or do i buy at the supermarkets in with the shop
what do people think? do anyone else buys their fruit and veg soley from farmshops? If we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

I get a veg box so it is all local veggies, its a bit more expensive but I'd rather support local farmers than Mr T, plus I make savings with vouchers on my normal shop so i feel i can justify spending a bit more for my veg0

I'd say definately support your local farm shop, if you can afford to that is.
I can't buy supermarket meat, eggs and carrots now because of the taste difference. The veg will also last longer than supermarket produce so will cut down on waste, plus it makes less of the "carbon footprint" we've been hearing so much about recentlyWith Love From The Mistress xx
