I've found with my fluctuating weight every time I need a new bra my size has changed so I always get measured at John Lewis. I find their serivce great and they always seem to find some reasonably pretty Bras for me.

A lot of people I've spoken to and on this thread have been measured wrongly. BUT, many of them seem to have been an unusual size but measured as a size that the shop stock...

Hmm  I wonder if there's a wee bit of an incentive for stores to provide an ill fitting item that they stock rather than tell someone they don't stock their size...

    Just a thought.
When i went to bravissimmo to be measured they just asked me what size bra i had on and pulled at the back and said two sizes two big, so i had to come down two sizes in back and to compensate go up two sizes in cup :D
Since then i have got my mother and friends in a proper sized bra and they have all said there bra's now actually fit them and they feel much more comfortable :D

A lot of people I've spoken to and on this thread have been measured wrongly......

Stores measure you with a plastic type tape. These tapes are liable to stretch with use so the measurement from store to store can vary by the age and quality of the tape measure.

The best I heard from M&S after she had measured me and told me I needed to go up 2 back sizes (I nearly typed side there!). I told her it would be too big but she insisted. Put it on and yes it was so big that the top of the back part that goes under your arms (you know what I mean) was completely away from my body and the whole bra was collapsing down. Her response was that my back was an unusual shape as the higher up my back went it got narrower - sort of the opposite of a hunchback!

Also different makes fit differently. I find Warners great, Fantasie vary within ranges, Gossard - small backs, playtex small cups & Debenhams own make very generous in cup sizes.

Just a little mention about Bravissimo - although their prices are quite high and they do charge for postage & packing, if you send anything back then they wont charge p&p on anything you order to replace it on the Returns form ... so in theory you could place one order (and be charged p&p) then return something and order something else in exchange (with free p&p) and keep doing this, never having to pay p&p again!! :rotfl:

It worked for me for about four orders (I didn't have the guts to try my luck any further!) and, as long as you are ordering something as a Replacement or Exchange (can't quite remember the terminology on the Returns form), then they are happy to send the things to you with free postage & packing!

I go to a specialist lingerie shop in my local town for my bras and they dont measure you, they just look at you and know your size. It works too, several people I know have been to this shop and they are right every time. Obviously you try on the different bras to see which fits the best tho!

Thought it quite strange at first, but hey it works!

You should have a look at the range stocked by this company

    www.bravissimo.com

they now have about 10 shops in the uk, a great mailorder cataloge and online purchases too. (Great for clearance stock).

They mostly sell underware for us curvy girls - (from all the main manufacturers) - and a few bits of clothing too. Their strappy tops are the only ones I can wear. Swimmwear is also very very good. I think you'll be very surprised at whats available.

(They also have a very good guide to help you find the right size).

Sorry folks I should have read the whole thread:o

Sometimes the wrong sort of Money Saving can be costly.

I decided to send my mum to Rigby & Peller [who fit the Queen] to get three fairly expensive bras for her Christmas present :). M&S is her more usual outlet.

But what price finding out that you have been miles out in your selection of bra size over X decades? I suggest it's probably best to do this before you reach pensionable age :o .

Researcher - and anyone else who's shopped at bravissimo - can I ask a question.... got my nice little box on Saturday with my strappy top, lovely. Only thing is, I found the underwire rubs (don't normally wear underwire) - looks really nice but rubs - wrong size do you reckon? Too late to send it back cos I've worn it and washed it.

    Cheers

I know this will make you laugh but my sister is a big girl and after reading this thread she laughted she lives in Surrey and has the large Blackbush market close by, on the large stall by the back gate is a young lady with large boobs herself who sells all well known brands, these brands are in white and also unusal colours like red /beige/ pinks and lilics etc but the savings are great, most bras under £10.00 sizes from 32a-32hh all sizes upwards / same cup sizes, she is a 36hh and has a lovely selection.
She has a shop in London and sells end of lines etc on the market.
